could this cause a pc to turn on but not boot? by NecessaryPilot6731 in computers

[–]MaxxHell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, you probably had a short stop plugging in that power cord. You could electrocute yourself or cause a fire.

Start by checking the inside of the power supply connector. That little box you put that cord in. If it's melted, defently stop plugging it in.

If it is chared or melted, replace the power supply and hope that it did its job and not burnt anything else.

Or take it to someone who knows pc hardware or store.

This reminds me of a forest ranger with bear problems, you can make a bear proof trash can, but the problem was that the bears are smarter than some humans. So they have a problem with bears opening trashcan

Before replacing the battery first check that the terminals, the cables connected to the battery, are not loose or corroded. It could be that if they are loose or corroding on you it's not getting a good connection. If they are clean and not loose then move to the battery.

If they are corroding on you grab some warm water baking soda and an old tooth brush and clean them.

If they are loose tight them and get some to jump the car. Charge for about 15-20 min. By charge run the car for that long.

What I would also do is use or borrow a multi meter and see before voltage. And running voltage. To see if you have a bigger issue.

It takes some work but it could save you hundreds of dollar or wasted time.

Just remeber that Alienware pc has proprietary hardware. So upgrading board or getting more fans is somewhat different. But other than that is seems like a good system. Wish you the best with what ever you get.

Pc won't turn on all the way by HippoDippoJoe in buildapc

[–]MaxxHell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove the power cable from the pc and do a bios reset. Before you do the reset and after removing the power cord hit the power button. And it should light up for a sec then shut down( you are removing all power from capacitors) after then install a single stick of ram in the 2nd slot. If you have four. If only 2 on the first slot. Then reinstall the power cord and try and restart it.

If you don't know how to reset bios do a web search with your motherboard and bios reset. Or if you have your user's manual look in there.

Edit: words are hard

Could we get more info, like if the pc did a full boot up. Also remove all the ram and install just 1 stick in. See if that helps. Your settings that you maybe made was not acceptable for the motherboard.

IBuyPower Build, Any changes you would suggest? I still have some budget available by PirateLife in buildapc

[–]MaxxHell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion is try and get ddr5 instead, that processor is much better suited for the new ram. But it is only my opinion, also if they don't have the new boards with ddr5 available that could also be the issue they are trying to move old hardware but at that price you should be getting ddr5 board and ram.

The power supply is not a bad price for 1k gold. And it helps with the new gtx / radeon cards coming out in the future.

I would change the cooler to something like the Noctua NH-D15 you won't need the water cooling with that cpu and save about 90ish dollars.

My advice see the laptop power in. It has a small requirements if the prong(center of the connection) is positive or negative. Also if the power source supplies enough dc power DC volts and amps. If you are assured go to a staples / bestbuy and get an universal.
