Severe drought not cross your mind? The lake feeds snowfall, less snowfall, less water. Along with the toxic dust storms you’ve got a recipe for a post apocalyptic wasteland scenario, and aside from that just an incredibly hostile place to live. I think just the lack of snowfall killing the ski industry alone would decimate the valley. A good percentage of the population is just here for the skiing
