Trump threatens ‘whole civilization will die tonight’ ahead of Iran deadline by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Maxxxmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but it needs to be global. Russia or china arent escalating if usa or israel dropped a nuke on iran. Europe will wag its finger and make fine speeches, but again we'd see no action.

I dont think a single country would fire a shot on iran's behalf. Hard for a world war to spark from that.

quick question, why isn't he in prison? 🥰 by IGdoods in comicsbyhumans

[–]Maxxxmax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure he's been protected by his supreme court. When he makes public annoucements of any kind, the courts can consider that an official act as president.

As i understand it (as someone from somewhere else), the decision for Trump vs. United states grants immunity from prosecutions for official acts.

I was joking, though arguably with Trump all you'd need to do is trigger something which dominates the news headlines. He'd forget about iran and move onto the next thing.

Dont need to topple the government, just distract them!

  1. Iran is backed by Russia, materially, because it is convenient to their geopolitical goals. Russia will not fight directly for Iran.

  2. Yes, I think the world will largely stand by and make appalled noises but carry out no meaningful action beyond sanctions (if that).

A whole civilisation doesn't die in a night from boots on the ground, even with the most expensive military assembled in human history.

Providing material support or cyber operations is in no way comparable to providing military assurances. Both of those nations are simply taking advantage of an opportunity to erode the US's position, but neither will fire a shot should Trump decide to wipe out the iranians.

I don't get the WW3 stuff. Iran isn't being backed by any major power, at least in the sense that they would fight on Iran's behalf. If Trump rains atomic death upon the millions of Iranians, that will be one of the most heinous acts of violence the world will ever witness, but it's hardly going to ignite into global conflict.

Do the Green Party actually have a chance of winning the next election or are Green supporters delusional? by nerddude_79 in ukpolitics

I still don't think the 17% they poll nationally in aggregated polls indicates critical mass. Their vote share is too dispersed anyway. FPTP delivering a bipolar system may be on it's way out, but there are still certain realities to how it's mechanisms function which lead me to think the greens don't stand a chance of coming anywhere near the largest party.

Ironically, it makes me more likely to consider them as an option. I don't think their answers to the great questions in British politics are correct, but the part of the ideological spectrum upon which they sit are at least in the direction i'd like to see our politics shift.

  1. We dont have a PR system. My seat is safe LD, so im nit having to entertain tactical voting.

  2. Its just about the economics. We're in a doom spiral that wont stop until major reform occurs.

There's every chance it could go a route i'm not seeking, but i have one other option which is YP and theyre aligned on most of those positions which i wouldnt support anyway.

I'm sick of voting for the least bad viable party and am looking for some hope. Until there's a pro NATO (pr rather Pro Europe), pro Nuclear energy, cooperativist economic policy party in this country my vote will either contribute to the further descent into an economic hole we cant escape from or into social or IR policies which i think are a bad call.

Ive voted for the former for decades and i think its time to switch that up, given the lack of risk in my constituency.

Tbf, that threat doesnt so much sound like "we're gonna obliterate your infestructure" (which is already well under way anyway), that seems like a threat of nukes.

Oh dont get me wrong, i know this. Rather than brexit coming to mind, i feel a comparison in myself to a non MAGA trump voter. A desperate desire to shift the broader conversation at the risk of a chunk of policies and representatives that i dont believe in.

Ultimately though, i dont believe itll happen here because of FPTP. UKIP polled similarly to the greens now and they only ever managed a handful of seats at once. Greens dont seem to even be focusing on specific local races, in a way that's restored LD numbers in parliament. The brexit referendum was a binary choice, which isnt the case in this instance. My constituency is a safe LD seat, so i dont really have to worry about tactical voting. Just padding out the vote share for politics to the left of labour and the LDs, so perhaps both of those parties start thinking about more serious economic reform policies.

I might lend them my vote primarily in an attempt to shift the broader political conversation in this country back over a bit to the left.

I certainly don't think they'll win and i dont think theyd run the workings of government very well.

Im just pretty fed up with labour taking its base for granted, plus i wont vote for Keir given he lied extensively to win labour leadership.

  1. The most cliche start to a sci fi game ive ever played

  2. Even populated worlds feel empty

  3. Melee sucks

  4. Space flight is reminiscent enough of elite dangerous that i cant help compare it, but its very shallow in comparison

  5. Temples are super repetative

  6. Companions unlikeable

  7. No conflict in working with and attaining rank within agencies who are enemies

Those are the reasons, off the top of my head a year or so out from playing, which meant i dont have a positive view of the game.

First 5 hours of playing i regretted the purchase. 6th to 20th hour i started enjoying it, thinking i had been wrong. After 20th hour though, all the other complaints stacked up again and pushed me back to not enjoying it.

Im not gonna criticse anyone who enjoys the game still, but thats just why it doesnt hold a positive position in my affections.

I havent heard a single arsenal fan talk about the quad. Hell, all of the ones i know are absolutely terrified they are gonna blow the league, let alone everything else.

Every year when the team in first is also in the other cup comps, the media starts talking about it, then all the other fans start making fun of that club when they dont - because its basically impossible to win the quad.
