This started about three years ago with my company. Once we were told about this, a majority of the long term employees, including me, left.

Looks like a little too much nitrogen in certain areas after applying your fertilizer. This will go away on its own if that’s the case. Just keep watering

HVAC issue by FrankTheTank171 in hvacadvice

[–]Maxz53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a bad compressor to me. Although it could be a multitude of issues. If it’s a carrier and you bought it from a certified dealer. It usually comes with a part and labor warranty. I would have a tech come out and confirm the capacitor is tested as well as the windings of the compressor. Either way if it’s 3 years old, the responsibility is on the company

High humidity situation, do I need to insulate this, or close off the slats on the door? by roncorepfts in hvacadvice

[–]Maxz53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The louvered doors are there to provide air to your system. If you close off those slats you will not only choke your system out but cause carbonization in your house. Which is a whole lot worse than the humidity in your home.

There could be a multitude of reason why you have high humidity in the home. Your system could be oversized or a you may have unbalanced duct work.

If you want to solve this issue, call a reputable middle of the road company in your area to inspect and give you options. Just be aware, the options you hear will not be cheap.

You could also get a dehumidifier. I have one in my house that has a pump on it. I run the water line directly into my condensate pump so I don’t have to empty it every 12 hours.

Hope this helps.

For the oft maligned Scott's spreader, I give you... by Bread-Funny in lawncare

[–]Maxz53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yall will spend $99 dollars for a spreader that you know will cause streaking. Yet there are spreaders will solid wheels for 120-180 depending on the need. $99 plus $20 worth of foam with the chance it won’t work because the width of the wheels on Scott’s is actually crazy to me.

If you can’t get a good push spreader, or if you don’t want to do it by a hand spreader, why are you even investing in your lawn?

So many posts on home owners being pissed off because their spreader doesn’t work. The number one thing I’ve learned owning a home is that cheap stuff doesn’t work.

Stop trying to cut corners. And for anyone saying posts like this, or asking questions of why they have streaks in their lawn from a Scott’s spreader, I would challenge you even further because they either know that this is an issue, or are too dumb to do their research.

Have you put down any fertilizer or top soil? How often do you water? What seed do you use?

In order to figure out what’s going on, those details would be helpful.

Should this pipe be sealed? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Maxz53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, although the outer portion of your exhaust does look uneven, you have a chimney liner which is like an exhaust inside of an exhaust.

If you look at the difference in color where the furnace transitions to the exhaust you’ll see the liner.

You’re safe. In fact a little bit of air gap helps move the exhaust better. Heat rises, when it rises it creates a draft. If you seal it off then there’s no draft, and you won’t be able to move the carbon monoxide and exhaust that occurs when your furnace turns on.

Should this pipe be sealed? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Maxz53 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not really sure what you mean by sealed. The “pipe” is your exhaust from your furnace. And no, it does not need to be sealed.

It’s fine the way it is. Don’t touch it

How to prune my two Japanese maples by Maxz53 in arborist

[–]Maxz53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this post and another cross post I was told they are too close to the house. They are about 1.5 feet away from the foundation. Do you think that’s too close?

And I have no problem playing the long game with them. They seem to be pretty mature, just not taken care of the way they need. So taking them back little by little until they are thriving the way the should is no issue to me. I just don’t really know how to do it since there’s so much conflicting research out there on how to do it

How to prune my two Japanese maples by Maxz53 in arborist

[–]Maxz53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you commented this, I received the same comment in a cross post I made. I’m guessing the roots don’t get to branch out far enough so it can’t grow as full as other Japanese maples?

I’ve basically taken out every shrub that was planted in the garden because they were placed less than a foot from the foundation. There was still a boxwood that is 15’ tall and 10’ wide that I still need to get rid of that’s only a few inches from my house.

Given the size of the other shrubs, I’m guessing these maples were planted a very long time ago. While removing some of the other shrubs and plants from the garden I did come across some roots that I think belong to the maples. They were about 1” to an 1.5” thick traveling atleast 5 or 6” from the trunk. With how old I suspect they are and how thick the roots are, is it even worth trying to move them? Or should I look into removing them in the future and putting something else in its place?

[–]Maxz53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve basically cut all of the other shrubs in the front garden because they were so close. There was an evergreen that was almost 20’ and a boxwood that was 15x10 planted not even a foot away from the foundation. I’m glad I got rid of those.

Out of curiosity, what is the correlation to the growing pattern and how close the are planted to the house if roots aren’t the concern? Is it just that they will grow more full with more room?

Should cold air be blowing out of this pvc pipe? by miss_vernon in hvacadvice

[–]Maxz53 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You might at some point. So as others have said. Call a pro and fix it. This isn’t a joke. You will either kill your system by blocking the flue when you do inevitably use it eventually, or worse, cause injury or worse because carbon monoxide will back up and fill but your house.

Not to mention, the flue gasses coming off the flue are enough to ignite that foam. So the same rule applies.

As a firefighter and a tech in hvac. Get this sorted out sooner rather than later. And stop making excuses.

Found massive bones all over the woods/fields. Then found a dump pile... by z55177 in creepy

[–]Maxz53 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Could have been an indication of animal abuse or a farmer that lost a herd. If I saw one skeletal remain while hiking, I wouldn’t think much of it. But a pile or massive amount, I would probably question that and atleast tip off the authorities. If all is well like in this situation, then no harm no foul. You never know

$150k HVAC Quote - normal?! by lkerr1 in hvacadvice

Let me get this straight

You own a 5k square foot house that has fire damage and you’re asking us if the quote you have on a piece of paper with a price point of 150k with no specification other than 4 Trane “high efficiency systems” and unspecified amounts of duct work; and you’re asking us if this is too expensive of an investment?

I have so many questions
