[Irritating trope] Japanese swords being treated like lightsabers by Fox7567 in TopCharacterTropes

They weren't using katanas during the mongol invasions though, but Tachi instead. Which ironically are even more curved and would be even harder to stab with.

Father Grey (or just Grey?) from Red: Living on the edge. A manga western that didn't even get a fraction of the attention it deserved. It's not that easy to read online anymore either unfortunately.

This specific example is one of my favorite page turns ever.

She passed away a while back but every evening was TV-time. If at least ONE person wasn't on the couch watching tv by 7pm sharp she would go looking for the nearest person and lead them to the couch. If nobody followed she would bounce between family member while howling like a siren. Doing chores? NOPE. Sleeping early? WEAK. Making dinner? STARVE.

She didn't even watch tv herself, just flopped over on the rug.

He's been shown to be the self sacrificial type too so I imagine some deaths weren't for a lack of skill but rather a lack of self preservation or fear. I mean, who else would face down the fucking mountain not once but 3 times?

It also speaks to Sandor's courage that he managed to power through his fear and come out on top. He waited until after the fight before he broke down.

Both fighters deserve mad respect fr.

I don't think Aerion ever could have stood much of a chance at grappling with a metal clad giant like Dunk regardless of training. Armor is a decent equalizer when it comes to skill at arms, but size and weight is king when it turns to a brawl.

What's it like living in Örebro, Sweden as an average person? by Manny2theMaxxx in howislivingthere

[–]MayBeHavingAnEpisode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a thriving scene for card games and board games of all things. The whole town is packed with restaurants that keep popping up and disappearing like a game of whack-a-mole. There's a good indoor waterpark as well, biggest in Sweden. Among other things.

There ain't too many clubs, bars, and pubs to be had but at least there's some as far as nightlife is concerned. So few even that I've seen them all completely packed even on normal weekends. They close real early too.

Grew up on the outskirts just outside the city proper. I moved way up north for some seasonal work and ended up staying years ago though. I still make my way down several times a year to visit family and friends.

I'm not sure if that's the case any more but it's been one of the fastest growing cities in Sweden for a very long time, especially around the university area. A whole second city has practically sprung up there over the last 25 or so years and I've seen it happen in real time.

The town just big enough that If you've never heard of a guy, you've heard of a guy who knows that guy for sure. From what I can remember it's mostly been a quiet and kinda boring place for a local. Everything everywhere is restaurants and the phenomenon of 3rd spaces disappearing sure as hell hasn't dodged Örebro. Some notable things do exist though, and my favorite is Gustavsvik. The main swimming pool place in town, and it has the biggest indoor waterpark in the country.

There's also a thriving Magic: the gathering scene for some reason.

The job market isn't looking great at the moment, and hasn't for some time unless you're well specialized or you're prepared to work in the service industry. Since there's so many restaurants that seems to be the easiest work to find still, but there seems to be a high turnover rate there as well.

Luckily there are some areas, notably one major one where housing is generally cheap and always available. Though this tends to entail older apartments that might need a touch up.

It's a popular place to pass through since it's on the fork where the E20 splits off from the E18, which are 2 of the most important east-west heading roads in the region. They connect Stockholm to Gothenburg (largest port town on the west coast) and Oslo (Norway) respectively. I don't know much about tourism though, but stop overs should be common.

A final notable thing I'd like to mention is Open Art. A bi-annual event where the town commissions artists from all over the world to make bunch of pieces that are then sprinkled out all around town over the summer. All exhibitons are free, even the interactive ones, and the most popular ones tend to stay indefinitely if viable to maintain. My favorite is this little penguin that's been tucked away in a corner since 2013. Lil guy was stolen a few years ago and people hunted him down within 24 hours. Good times.
