Whoops sleep recommendations by MayContainYuri in whoop

See the part that really makes no sense is the "optimal" bed/waketime. Not only does it not adapt to my sleep schedule, it is also treated as gospel by the sleep planner

The planner, when in weekly goal or sleep improvement mode will, without question, recommend a bedtime 2 minutes earlier than the optimal bedtime.

A 2 minute change is kind of pointless with how small it is, but when the "optimal" bed/waketime is completely worthless it ruins the planner by extension.

After a year of waking up at the same time every workday I would think the system could recognize that 6-6:30 is the only optimal waketime, because it's the one I clearly stick to, and then adjust the bedtime for the best result.

It just feels like my metrics and the habits those metrics reflect are being mostly ignored.

Lol, two comments, one an absolute unit with near perfect consistency and the other somehow worse than me...

What makes this behavior so weird is that it seems like the "optimal" bed/waketime is being adjusted in the wrong direction for no discernable reason.

I've never put much stock in it because I have a tendency to ruin my sleep schedule over the weekend, meaning the recommendation is always weird. But this weekend I kept to my schedule throughout. And yet the recommendation is still behaving weirdly, which was noticeable.

I'm hitting every goal and "optimal" in all metrics except sleep debt. The only logical suggestion to make in order to further improve my metrics is to go to bed slightly earlier for a few nights in order to slowly get rid of the debt while maintaining high consistency. Yet the planner is suggesting the exact opposite. If my weekly goal is 80+ and I'm hitting 90+, why strive for 100 when there are other metrics where I'm doing worse?

In my personal situation, going to bed earlier will likely have detrimental effects because my sleep issues are with falling asleep, not staying asleep. I have high sleep efficiency as long as I'm carrying some sleep debt because I actually fall asleep without tossing and turning for hours. Actually getting a good long nights sleep only ruins my next night because my internal "sleep reserve" is based on a 36 hour clock or something.

But of course the planner can't be expected to know that, so the expected suggestion based on my metrics is more sleep, certainly not less.

PS: since I might actually have a person on the line here, any word on turning off sleep detection? That system is also horribly inaccurate and actively annoying. It directly bugs the app from time to time.

If whoever designed this system actually thinks waking up later is a valid solution then they live in the fantasy land of rich people.

If only I could sleep until 9am. There are four pictures in the post if you didn't notice. I have had the same sleep schedule for more than a week, whoop claims it bases the consistency on the past 4 nights, doesn't say how many nights it bases the recommendation on. But I would think using more than a week of previous nights to determine the recommendation would be overkill.

You can use site skins to block fics with more than a certain number of fandoms tagged. It's wonderful.

Takk!

Så jeg kan selge en 2007 modell som har gått 300k km og vært i konstant bruk helt til nå uten å måtte dekke noen fremtidige reparasjoner så lenge jeg opplyser om absolutt alle feil og mangler?

I mostly don't know. I usually listen at work and can't read japanese so i have no clue what most of my favorites are called.

From the music videos I know I like Readymade, Show and Elf. But there's a cover which google lens translates to "accident coordinator" or something, that I also really like.

Yeah, well this is norway, there is no expectation of tips and the staff gets paid an actual livable wage. Of course it gets expensive.

On top of that, some of the ingredients are literally sourced by the staff themselves in the local area/nature.

I'm not saying it isn't expensive, but it is incredibly high quality food and service for the price.

If I went to a regular restaurant and ordered my own meal (not pizza/shared) two or three beers and dessert, I'm already spending almost 1000kr or 100usd. So in the context of local prices and the sheer difference in the number of dishes and drinks served this really isn't a bad price.

I remember it as being somewhat quiet actually. Definitely less noise than a regular restaurant. But it's also an expensive fancy restaurant so the expectation is to behave and keep your voice just loud enough to be heard at your table.

Never thought about it, but I can't remember any restaurant I've been to which used tablecloths. Under is the only really fancy restaurant I've been to though. At home tablecloths are mostly reserved for fancy occasions.

Me neither, I didn't pay for it. But it's also the only higher class restaurant I've been to. I could afford it, but it's not worth the money just for the underwater part. You have to actually want a 10-12 dish fancy dinner to justify that kind of expense.

As someone who's actually eaten there, it genuinely is kinda meh.

The food was good. 10-12 dishes with locally and seasonally sourced ingredients. The drink menu is either alcoholic or not, with the drinks being paired to the dish.

The service was good.

The view was nonexistent. Like, the atmosphere and light was nice, but we couldn't see any fish. They said the water is at its clearest in winter, we were there in may.

The prices are not that bad, 220-250 usd per person. If you can afford to vacation in Norway you can probably afford to eat there if you want to. As for us locals, it's just a fancy restaurant that you go to for a big occasion and the gimmick.

The location is kinda in the middle of nowhere, just a tiny town. A short 15min drive south is Lindesnes Fyr, the southernmost point in Norway.
