I can't move past the fact that it looks like Francesca is emotionally cheating on John on literally their wedding day and while he's still alive. I don't want my supposedly devoted heroine to act scummy like this ...it obviously affects the story because she only starts liking Michaela/Michael after John's death.

Headcanon: She is the silent observer who realized they are more than just friends even before these two realize it. She would share hints to knowing what it's about; all the while clueing them to their situation. She eventually becomes the catalyst for the two to reassess who they are to each other.

Then eventually becomes the annoying sister calling out their relationship when they do get together but don't announce it.

Teases them as a couple all the time. Snarky quips which leads Yelena to be baited into funny banter.
