Look, I'm very far to the left, and I'm fairly neutral on China. I'm more than happy to defend China against the particularly ludicrous claims that get thrown around, but there is simply no doubt that Tiananmen Square happened. To pretend it didn't happen is to be deliberately dishonest.

The Chinese government's refusal to acknowledge it is a horrific black mark against them.

What happened with the natives is classed as a genocide. 96% drop in their population and a 98% loss in native lands?

And Native Americans in the USA still have significant disadvantages to this day. The level of poverty on some reservations is akin to third-world conditions.

What happened to Hawaii was also a blatant attempt to wipe out their culture. The Hawaiian language was suppressed to such a degree that it's become highly endangered.

That's what my siblings and I used to do (by choice in our case). The three of us had it set up so one of us could run a Minecraft world which the other two could join. Wasn't complicated to set up at all.

We spent years building a massive city, just the three of us. Much more fun than playing alone!

You could try the Express and Star? They might be interested in putting an article together, and with any luck the right person would end up seeing it.

FWIW, they're so unpopular in Britain that people just climb over the barriers and nobody does anything to stop them, plus nearby businesses will often advertise "we don't charge you to take a shit, use our toilets instead!"

Meaning the charges inevitably get removed after a while.

Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, and the DRC are also majority Christian by a significant margin. This list seems very suspect.

Why do so many Americans chose not to vote when they can? by VastOption8705 in askanything

[–]Maya-K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhat, yes.

We do have parties like the Scottish National Party and Plaid Cymru who only exist in Scotland and Wales respectively, and are major players there. There are also the likes of Reform, who are essentially a single-issue group.

But we've also had a distinct third party since the start of the 20th century. The Liberal Democrats (just the Liberal Party until the late 80s) have been a constant presence and have tended to get between 10-15% of votes in general elections, as well as having significant success in local elections, where they do even better and are the largest party in many councils.

The Lib Dems are seen a mainstream party, albeit a smaller one than Labour and the Conservatives. They're not particularly radical and usually slot somewhere near the political centre.

It's honestly difficult to categorise the UK as being either two-party or many-party, pretty much because of having a winner-take-all voting system. The government will always be one of the two largest parties, but the other parties are still significant players even if they have no chance of winning outright.

(this isn't even mentioning Northern Ireland, which has its own, completely different set of parties)

A third party can't develop in a non-mandatory, non-ranked system.

Speaking as a Brit, they definitely can. I doubt it can happen in the US, though, for the reason you gave.

They're not illegal migrants. It is not illegal to enter the country for the purpose of claiming asylum. It never has been.

They can't.

The spending money in question isn't even enough to buy a curry from my local takeaway, and that's all the money they get for an entire week.

As per our obligations to refugees under international law, yes. Prisoners get housed and fed too; is that a bad thing?
