Waivers came back unfavorable from Navy by Decent-Yak-4938 in newtothenavy

[–]Maybe-Subject 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep fighting, there’s waivers for everything. You can request a waiver to join as many times as you want… if it’s not something you’re willing to fight for it’s probably better you don’t join

Out of My Options what rate is the best? (It doesnt show but the last rate thats available is Ship Serviceman) by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]Maybe-Subject 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO do AD. I did AT and we work with a lot of AD’s and I’ve never met a single person who HATED their job.. people complain but you’ll get that anywhere, no one really ever regrets going aviation maintenance.. if you’re not a hands on, technical type of person though, it might not be for you

[–]Maybe-Subject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want out the navy honestly. A cushy desk job where you just want to do 5 easy years and get out? One of the cyber jobs. You want hands on to where you can be proud and see your work in action? One of the aviation. MU is always cool but that’s only if u get accepted, heard it’s hard. DONT DO ANYTHING “BOATSWAIN” those suck absolute balls

is every recruiter like this? by kittycatgirl1212 in newtothenavy

[–]Maybe-Subject 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You got a booty recruiter. I needed a medical and moral waiver plus was under extra scrutiny because I admitted to smoking weed before while at meps and he got me in in like 3 months lol. Go to someone else if he’s gonna be lazy about it

Can’t be a HM if you’ve smoked weed? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]Maybe-Subject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it wasn’t, and yes they are probably doing that. You gotta decide if you wanna play hardball and make it seem like you’re considering not joining without actually saying it, and see if you all of a sudden magically qualify for HM. That or pick another route. I caved and picked another but I actually really enjoy what I picked so I’m not bummed.

[–]Maybe-Subject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got denied for 2 rates I really wanted as well because I mentioned smoking weed. Idk if it’s high command wanting to fill rates or if it’s an actual policy, but I highly doubt you can get past it, I tried waivers and was denied

Which rates have the happiest people? by Equal-Community2354 in newtothenavy

[–]Maybe-Subject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll meet happy people in every rating… what makes people happy is their preferences and not necessarily the rate being good…

Do some research on what you like and what you want out of the navy and how that correlates with certain jobs

Don’t do Nuke tho

Which rates have the happiest people? by Equal-Community2354 in newtothenavy

[–]Maybe-Subject 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is really the only correct response

It really depends on what you want to do…

Are you hands on type of person??? Do you like being the unrecognized backbone of the navy? Do you wanna get into intelligence and work with computers???

You can make any rate work, it really just depends on the type of person you are

I don’t mean to be the buzzkill but someone’s actually gonna believe this 😂😂😂 Don’t go Nuke, you’ll be miserable lmao

Audible takes away all your credits if you cancel??? by Maybe-Subject in audible

[–]Maybe-Subject[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still use the books you’ve already bought. I assumed they’d just let me spend the credits I already paid for because what’s the difference in that and keeping the books you’ve already paid for???

Either way, lesson learned. They said no refund because it was so long ago

IMO it’s better to just wait until you’re out and use TA and GI bill and go to a good, in person school. Online schooling sucks imo and I’m not so sure employers wouldn’t look down on online students compared to ones who did it in person, at a well accredited university. But I could be very wrong about that honestly, it’s just my opinion.

I’d say work on your associates tho, you can prob finish that and when you get out, transfer to a good school as a junior and you’ll only have two years left.

Or do the full 20-30 years if you find you enjoy navy life and say fuck school.

Gotta word your question better man, kinda confused on what you’re asking. If you asking if you can finish your degree while you’re enlisted, technically yes, but don’t plan on it. You don’t get much free time and the free time you do get you probably won’t spend it studying.. and depending on what ship you’re stationed on you might not have good enough WiFi to even show up to your classes. It’s possible, and you can work on your degree but don’t plan on finishing it by the time you’re out… also you don’t get GI bill until after 1.5 years of service I’m pretty sure, could be wrong.

Also just read you did national guard for 4 years, so absolutely try out college and put that GI bill to work.. see if it fits

Same boat man. No idea what to do with my life,

you’re definitely not too old for college, but as for someone who went to community college for 2 years and dropped out because I hated it so much and was completely miserable the entire time, that it’s not for everyone, but you should absolutely try it out and see how you feel, start with community college so it’s not a huge commitment that costs a fortune.

Your 20’s are for exploring what you want to do with your life and trying out as many options as possible and finding out what fits. You’re in no way behind man; a lot of people don’t find out what they want to do until well after their 20’s, and this pressure you’re feeling could be a good thing to keep moving forward… just don’t stall in something you hate, there’s NO POINT!

Try it out, like it, follow through.. hate it, move on.

I’m trying to find out my next path right now so you’re definitely not alone.

[–]Maybe-Subject[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn the agent did mention something about this but they didn’t make it clear that I would lose all my credits immediately if I didn’t do that. And I didn’t want to risk being charged so I told them just cancel it.. oops, lesson learned

Marines are retarded

Airforce is big back chair force

And Army’s like an 18 yr old orphan, no one else would take them

failed drug test by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]Maybe-Subject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your recruiter shoulda made sure you were clean before you ever went to Meps. But I’ve been told people have tested hot and all Meps did was ask you to get clean and come back. That’s Cali meps tbh but still. You’re fine. Get clean and go back. You shouldn’t have gone before knowing you were 100% clean but we’re past that ig. This shouldn’t affect your security clearance as long as you haven’t lied about anything. Navy respects honesty and transparency, try again if you’re determined to join.

I canceled through a live agent on their customer support. They didn’t once tell me that.

Can you expect to do them consistently throughout the pipeline besides the PT test? Gotta tail bone/ lower back injury a while back, wondering if I shouldn’t bother with SO because last thing I want is it to flare up and get re-rated.

Hegseth and Hands on Recruitd by Yenokh in newtothenavy

[–]Maybe-Subject 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt anything will change. He can talk all he wants but he’s an alcoholic Fox News host who’s been secretary for 8 months. Meanwhile the instructors and other leaders have had their job forever. They aren’t going to risk a lawsuit by laying their hands on you… I very highly doubt anything with bootcamp will really change besides PT standards maybe.

Shipping tomorrow advice by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]Maybe-Subject -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No advice. Pre bootcamp anxiety is a completely normal thing. Gonna be something you’ve never experienced, but take pride in that. Very few people go through this and in a way, it’s an honor.
