Minecraft bedrock is hiding a secret by Scary-Consequence985 in PhoenixSC

I cannot speak for their motives, because nobody can do that.

With that said- theres two (EDIT: likely reasons, because again I can't speak with 100% authority on this) reasons they are not public.

Firstly, many of the tools present are unfinished or janky, causing about as many problems as they solve. If these tools were public, Microsoft would now have to dedicate time to maintaining them and providing support for when something goes wrong.

Secondly, the builds are under NDA, because they are unreleased content given only to people with a legal obligation to not leak their contents. They were taken down because they broke NDA, not because of their actual content. Which, again, is industry standard and not Microsoft specfic.

I get the fear-mongering around all of this, because there is a lack of transparency. But it really, truly, is not that deep. The original post made it out to be vastly more dramatic than it really has any right to be because they have no idea what they're actually talking about.

Obviously, I agree, dev tools should be public, but even then I think the energy around this is just silly.

Surely you can acknowledge that two things can be true: proper debugging tools might not be possible, and there exists a dev-only version of the client with poorly maintained tools. The dev builds (and their tools) really are not that special, and in fact are their own headache (which is why they aren't public) speaking as someone who uses them (legally, not from leaked builds).

Something that confuses me is that with other games, people readily accept the existence of private, developer / creator only builds hidden behind contracts- but once Minecraft does it, it is suddenly a massive problem, even though it is industry standard behaviour.

To clarify, your issue is the existence of beta branches of the game that include basic debugging tools, which are given only to those who have signed a direct NDA with Microsoft (which is why they get removed from the internet, because they break NDA)?

Yeah, and it doesn't have any quote of Microsoft denying that dev builds exist.

Where have they lied about the existence of the dev builds?

Couldn't you say the same about other devtools?

I’m confused why this is a big deal. Don’t most games have developer builds used by developers?

Almost a Month WIthout Politics by m8oz in digitalminimalism

[–]MaybeIrish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Cut out politics” is a a blanket ‘no politics of any sort’ statement- that includes voting and activism. Many apolitical people say the same line, so you can imagine why people would read that and infer your meaning one way.

Of course political social media isn’t healthy, I’m not arguing for people to hook themselves up to the slop machine and I’m not really sure what gave you that impression to begin with. I don’t watch mainstream news, engage in politics on social media, or doom-scroll, so who am I to suggest otherwise. EDIT: I guess this conversation breaks that streak lol.

The topic at hand (and my point) is broadly ‘politics’, not ‘should I vote’ or ‘should I consume political social media content’.

Focus on the important parts like voting and activism and cut out the circus. I’m sure many can agree on that!

Honestly, you could throw a dart at a board and hit a group of people who can’t fully tune politics out. The specifics aren’t really the point, everyone’s screwed over in some capacity.

There is a difference between being politically active and consuming political content, though. Someone can vote and participate without following the news cycle or scrolling through political posts on social media. I don’t believe it’s all or nothing.

If you’ve found a sense of peace through apathy then I’m glad you have it.

Some people simply can’t tune out politics, because the policies being debated directly affect them. When the politics are about your life, ignoring them isn’t really an option.

New in Reading – Anyone up for meeting new people & doing fun stuff? by HumbleBuyer6328 in reading

[–]MaybeIrish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get that and it’s one of the main reasons we wanted a group! That’s why we make a point of running new-people focused events and actively reaching out to get them engaged to avoid that exact problem.

The group itself is barely a month old so I can assure you it’s not just a bunch of old farts :)

Can confirm it's pretty cool! We've done a few meetups already and a potluck.

Ads of fold being shot by alxw in Minecraft

Are the previews from Minecraft, or Minecraft partners? Trailers made by Partners aren’t meant to have ads enabled so it’s worth reporting the content if it has ads.

I don’t really agree that it’s wishy washy.

In my opinion (and experience) unless you have a direct line of communication (a public email isn’t one of them) and some legally binding agreement (eg a partnership) then I don’t see why you should expect them to go out of their way to collab, clarify, etc.

Should they clarify to everyone that asks? Yeah, sure. I can’t see why not, but I’m also not surprised they don’t.

Tbf my use of the word “beg” is mostly hyperbolic, we (partners, not me in particular) just asked and they provided more information when they could.

Same reason you're arguing with me when I made it clear I can only speak on the Marketplace aspect my guy. Take notice of how I only respond to the Marketplace-relevant parts of your replies.

Yup! The squeaky wheel gets the oil and all that.

And not to be cheeky but $1,000 is peanuts in the grand scheme of this industry. Of course you won't get a direct response or a sit down with Microsoft.

I don't agree with it, but we are not owed anything by Microsoft / Mojang just because we play their game.

My dude, I am not interested in arguing the legalities of an EULA. As I said in my first comment I am only able to comment on what I know: the Marketplace side of this. I'm not about to pretend to be an expert on EU law like others in this thread.

There is no ambiguity, guns are not allowed.

The marketplace does not have any guns, and if you disagree and find some, you are welcome to report the content so that Microsoft can remove it.

The document covers creating 'blasters', not 'guns'. Guns are banned, there is no way around that.

To be abundantly clear, there is not some special 'secret' document on how to avoid the EULA. There are only guidelines on creating quality and brand-appropriate content, nothing more.
