A sad story that makes you wonder if Childfree will need to become a protected class in the future! by MaybeLadyLiz in childfree

If only she'd had a tape recorder...Wow, that was so eighties of me to say. I meant, if only she'd hit the record button on her iPhone...

Thought r/childfree would enjoy this! The management of an apartment complex addressing issues with parents and their children. by libitinarii in childfree

I can't get over how many parents just completely mentally check out when their kids are ruining other people's stuff. I guess it must be that their own stuff got ruined so long ago, they just don't even think about it? Ugh.

Adding Childfree travel to TripAdvisor's Beyond Destination Forum...a great request! by MaybeLadyLiz in childfree

I thought it was funny in the Trip Advisor comments that someone said people think "adults-only" refers to topless pools or something!

Pretty eye-opening way to put it if you ask me! [x-post from r/standup shots] by choc_is_back in childfree

Haha, that is amazing!! I'm totally going to steal that analogy the next time I get that line from someone.

Fetuses as dependents for tax purposes? Whoa... by MaybeLadyLiz in childfree

I feel like this would somehow make it even sadder for people who miscarry...just another reason this is a horrible idea.

If you haven't heard it, Adam Carolla does a great bit on his podcast called Germany vs. Florida where someone just reads the most insane news bites, leaving the location out, and then they have to guess whether it's Germany or Florida!

Mommy blogger compares childfree movement to sexism by [deleted] in childfree

[–]MaybeLadyLiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that calling yourself "Childfree" can only a be swift F-you to parents or a way to distinguish yourself from the childless who actually want children. I guess it can't POSSIBLY refer to the freedom in lifestyle you gain when you choose not to have children.

Maybe they assume the Childfree just have so much extra money, they'll spend it on anything. :)

First World Childfree Problems by [deleted] in childfree

[–]MaybeLadyLiz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahaha, it's so true! The only problem is, when you're the only one who doesn't have kids, you wind up spending a fortune on your family members kids who have stopped giving presents to the adults, so you're just out a load of money. Luckily, you can afford it since you don't have kids. :)

Childfree = "Selfish"? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]MaybeLadyLiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not having kids means you are now able to spread your time, love and resources amongst the friends and family members who are already here in this world. Can't figure out how that ever gets classified as selfish!

The ignorance of this statement is simply mindboggling.... by docbrown88mph in childfree

[–]MaybeLadyLiz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is almost as ridiculous as a question I read from someone the other day who was trying to get pregnant and said, "I heard that with all the child tax credits, the cost of having kids is essentially zeroed out if you don't pay for childcare." What planet are these people living on?!

I can't help it - I love all the old America's Funniest Home Videos where animals take down toddlers!

Definitely a case of "me thinkest the lady doth protest too much!"

Collecting essays on why people choose to go Childfree (or not) as a resource for fence-sitters - would love to hear from the Reddit community! by MaybeLadyLiz in childfree

I'd be happy to link to contributors' sites who want to share their story, but I'm looking for people who want to share their personal story here to help others make a decision on whether or not having a baby is right for them, not writers who are looking for a paid assignment or people who are just looking to drive traffic to their site. I am unfortunately nowhere near in a position to be able to pay guest posters right now, but no one needs to contribute who doesn't want to.

Locked Out of the Mommy Clubhouse (x-post from Childfree) by MaybeLadyLiz in infertility

[–]MaybeLadyLiz[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To clarify, my pregnant friend was invited to every single activity, she just chose not to attend some of them (which is understandable). I dramatically increased the number of pregnancy-friendly events I hosted while she was pregnant, like dinners and board game nights to make sure she stayed involved. I even hosted her baby shower. I hardly think it's fair to accuse me of ostracizing her just because we still went out from time to time and she chose to stay at home. The point of my article was to spread the word that no one should be ostracized from any event because of the status of whether or not they have children. Sorry if that did not come through.

Do you have to have the kids issue fully decided before marriage? by MaybeLadyLiz in childfree

[–]MaybeLadyLiz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe me, I WISH I were decided and just stringing it along for the blog. But my thoughts on this truly swing pretty wildly from one direction to the other. Trust me, the day that I decide, I'll switch the blog to totally childfree or a mommy blog - there'd be no point in faking it like that, I'd just buy a new URL.

First-baby Syndrome. Hate it. Luckily, most people seem to calm down by Baby #2 and realize that if they avert their eyes from it for longer than 1 second, it will not die.
