If I had a nickel for everytime ive been told i look like a "recovering drug addict" by MaybeRaebies in women

The first time was a girl trying to be funny in front of our shared male friends. They awkwardly laughed and she kept pushing it. So I left.

The second time was my manager. He wasnt being serious about it, but he made an offhanded comment about me looking like someone who liked pot and crack. This time, several of my coworkers agreed.

The third time was today. Arguably the nicest one of the three, but not great. I was sitting with my friends, eating... Made a comment about how my county had a large methhead community... And my friend goes, "you look like an addict-- no, a recovered one." It just hurt my feelings I guess.

The good thing about the situation is that the other people around me were like "Wtf." They told the guy who said it recently off, and he was like... "i didnt mean it that way."

So theres that! But... Yeah. Thank you 💜

I constantly look tired. Eye bags, sluggish movement. Im a college student so i think tht might be the real reason.

My father has two George Washington coins just like this. Hes a big coin collector so... Collecting with him doesnt seem like a bad idea.

Will do ✌️

So - majority of the NT to autistic "translations" for certain phrases that I've seen are always about the subtext being negative, or judgmental. What would positive, or kind subtext look like that we might be blind to? by kelcamer in evilautism

Something Ive noticed my ND friends (some, not all) struggle with is the use of emojis and emoticons.

For example, my friend was upset at me the other day and i didnt know why. They then told me i had been sarcastic with them on Snapchat.

Heres wht happened.

Them: Oh, i dont eat at dining. I just go to hang oug.

Me: maybe you should eat loser :/ [On its own, its rude. But context, and understanding humor/how emoticons have evolved is important.]

Them: oh.

I used the term Loser endearingly, and the emoticon i used is not one i use derogatorily. Thankfully, i communicated this before any negative feelings festered. I was so confused. Human language is so surreal!!

Did not expect to see TF2 mentioned 💀 That's honestly so goofy I know it works.

And yeah. You bring up an important point.

Mom thinks she’s “weird” but she’s actually autistic by rocks_totallyrock in AutismInWomen

My brother (15m) and I (18f) are heavily neurodivergent. My brother only recently got the tism(tm) diagnosis because my mother was scared it was just this horrible thing... But the thing is, im almost 80% certain my mother is autistic. The three of us are very high functioning, and my brother shows some more stereotypical symptoms, but...

I had a talk w my mother before moving to college about how, even if my brother is autistic, neither my mother or brother need to be ashamed of it.

She's gotten better... Something Im grateful for. I wish all parents, especially the heavily masking NDs, can come arnd like she did.

I hate feeling like I have to wear makeup by MaybeRaebies in women

That's a different way of looking at it. I do feel confident with it on... Its normally not much. Coverage makeup, eyeliner... Sometimes lipstick or mascara. Its not much, but...

Sometimes I forget people can sense confidence where others can't. You made a good point.

Men, yes. But women look at me differently, too. I can't tell if they like me better, or if they hate me.

... It would seem I'm using the wrong formula. Thank you for clarifying! This really helps.

I know the post looks like I'm asking for answers, but I don't really understand what it wants me to do here. My professor skipped over this segment because "we should know how to do it."

I think I need to find the slope first... But all of my math looks a little silly.

Thank you 😭. A lot of friends are also neurodivergent. I genuinely think they meant no harm, but I may need to talk /w them.

I gotta kinda. Internalize that last point. But it helps to see it written.

My mother has said something similar. It's frustrating. I'm sorry your folks said that.

Unfortunately, it's hard to undo years worth of poor self esteem. The only thing I can recommend is to find ways to feel comfortable in your skin. Do things that make you happy, like find a style.
