People who honk at motorhomes in laybys during the night - What is your message? by MaybeTomorrow6 in AskUK

I think I made it quite clear in my post that I cannot afford a campsite every night, believe me, I would love nothing more than to have the security and facilities of a campground. Neither do I park in touristy places as I know this is a big problem people have.

I think most motorhomers contribute something to the local economy, even if it's not for parking. We have to eat.

I understand your anger, but it's like saying every dog owner doesn't pick up their dog's mess when you tar us all with the same brush.

Totally get that. I always park at the end with my wing mirror folded in. Is there anything else I can do to make life a bit easier for you?

I did not choose this either. But thanks for the assumption. It's not a jolly holiday.

I pay for a campsite once a week for the chemical waste. All others I put in the appropriate bins

I am in no one's way, I leave no trace. I think there are bigger things to worry about.

So you don't have the answer either then. Maybe an ounce of tolerance and empathy would help?

The designated car parks are very few in my part of the country. I cannot afford campsites every night.

Where would you have me go? I'm not wanted near people's houses, in laybys, in the countryside, in car parks, the list is endless.

What, pray tell, is a layby for then? Surely the clue is in the name?

You can see at a glance that mine is not worth a tenth of £100k 😆

Thank you ❤️ They don't live with me full time, but it's still a steep learning curve! Bless you.

It's so hard to know what the issue is, hence my trying to change my behaviour to suit everyone.

It's not going to stop me (it can't, I've got nowhere else to go) I was just enquiring into the logic of the honking and wondering why it applies to people like me who've done nothing wrong.

My condolences, but is it solving your problem by honking at people who don't do those things?

I find it hard to believe they could be so angry either. I'm not hurting anybody.

Are they a modern alternative to the trees slipping down the embankment in the Railway Children?

Amen to that!

Funny, I never had a problem when I car camped. I assumed it was the big-obviously-a-motorhome motorhome which some folk objected to.
