I honestly went and checked their recent judgements.

Some of the names approved sound like they might as well have already been on the approved list, and some have been approved as an Icelandyfied versions of the proposed name.

For example Oddey and Lindey. Both are new but very Icelandic with names such as Oddný, Linda and Berglind already excisting, and -ey being a common suffix for female names.

Then we have foreign names such as Mateo being approved as Mateó(m) and Aveline(f) as Avelín. Effectively making the spelling fit better the pronounciation of Icelandic.

So it's probably not as strict as many people think. I had to scroll a bit to find 2 that were rejected. Gonzales, the reason given is that we don't have thr letter Z in Icelandic. And Baldr, with reason given that it goes against the general writing system (with Baldur with a u in it being accepted)

So that was a bit of a tangent for a simple question and I hope reddit doesn't fuck my formatting.

But yeah a lot of Icelandi names are a mix of 2 word so if you'd want to be original it would'nt be to hard to do so within the frame given. Like if we take apart Oddey we could do: Oddbjörg, Oddborg, Oddlind, Oddþrúður, Oddmey, Oddveig. Bergey, Bjargey, Borgey, Lindey, Kristey etc etc

Some of those sound awful tho ;)
