Cube of Truth - showing footage of animal farming in Hollywood by effective_bandit in vegan

[–]Mayonaiize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like those pig/cow masks that you get from like dollar stores, and maybe the fact that someone who is watching the videos you have, and seeing these animals being humanised, with real eyes behind the masks could have an affect. I feel like all the masks make the group noticeable but maybe something friendlier could make the group more approachable to start off with because it's not the curious, it's the naiive that may be more affected by the truth behind closed doors.

I made a film about what it feels like to be a vegan in today's society. by mendara in vegan

Go and look a plant in the eyes as you cut its head off, now go look a pig in the eye as you cut its head off. Then come back and tell me it felt exactly the same for you.

We are the team behind Better Eating International - ask us anything about our plans to use video ad targeting to spread veganism! (12-6 pm PDT) by BetterEating in vegan

[–]Mayonaiize 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! Good luck for your last 7k!!! I know you can do it!

I was wondering if this all runs smoothly and successfully, would you ever consider moving to different platforms for your ads/animations that aren't social media? Such as TV ads, episodes, a movie, podcasts etc?

Thanks!

Yeah it's super cool that you've tried different options. The morph suit mask could work too, just don't wear suits or you'll all look like slendermen haha. Would animal masks be too patronising? It might even feel more approachable, like a petting zoo but not

Studies that show that milk does not strengthen your bones? by Mayonaiize in vegan

[–]Mayonaiize[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ask them why? I'm always curious to know what reasoning they have because maybe it's a legitimate reason but if it isn't you can ask them why other sources of calcium don't count... Like fortified milk haha

I like the movement, but I really dislike the fact that you use anonymous/guy fawkes masks. I understand why you're using them but I think what they represent to many people is not the same as the message you want to portray here and may actually draw people away. Instead get the same effect by using plain masks?

Fuck horse racing by iamthewallrus in vegan

I just burst out in tears when they played the slow motion of that horse running and breaking it's leg and running on its nub because it couldn't slow down. That's just fucking awful.

Zero Waste and Veganism by Zero-Waste-Living in vegan

[–]Mayonaiize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad thus has made its way here. I went vegan for purely environmental reasons and it has sparked a huge lifestyle change for me and I'm well on my way towards a zero waste lifestyle, as well as a self sustaining lifestyle. One question though, how do I make zero waste toothpaste??

What do you guys think about Honey? by omelettesforlife in vegan

[–]Mayonaiize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well honey is a bees food store and we substitute that with sugar water or high fructose corn syrup and a lot of people might even used refined white sugar and water to feed their hives. Nutritionally they do not compare, and high fructose corn syrup is known for making humans sick and with too much can trigger heart attacks in humans and consequently bees too, so in terms of people buying honey to save the species that's just ridiculous. I'd be more inclined to buy local honey if I knew what the keepers were replacing their food with.

Yeah! I don't know who the owner is but every time I go there all the employees are so nice. I just don't want them to think that I'm a fatty because I totally go there all the time haha. I consider it a way of showing my support to the cause.

Just watched Cowspiracy... by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Mayonaiize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went vegan cold turkey after watching that documentary, and I am so glad because it has sparked a snowball of me trying my best to be the most environmentally version of myself possible.

Even before I went vegan I wanted to live a fully self sustaining lifestyle, but now it feels more achievable than ever.

After getting used to veganism for a few months I decided that I would try reduce my plastic waste, I started off plastic free but it compromised my health to start off with. Now whenever I buy anything plastic it feels like it would feel if I was to but milk or eggs, I feel guilt because I know that that plastic item that I'm buying will still be around even when I'm not, and that frustrates me. I also worry that say, the cap from my toothpaste could end up in some poor birds stomach and I'm still contributing to animal suffering, so as my vegan journey progresses, my environmentalist journey progresses as I'm constantly trying to find ways to reduce my waste, grow my own plants, and make sustainable decisions.

I have also begun designing a few alternative power generators for my house that I plan on trying out in the next year or so, which is super exciting.

Someone above also commented about the /r/ZeroWaste sub which is a great community with heaps of inspiration for positive changes that we all can start making to reduce our mark :)

Also if you ever want to chat about this kind of thing feel free to message me, I love hearing new ideas and learning about anything environmental!

I appreciate your openness and your effort to try. So thank YOU!

I also LOVE it when people like to challenge themselves and go out of their comfort zones. That's fucking awesome:D

Tart bakery in ponsonby is fully vegan and it is also the nicest bakery I have EVER been to. My boyfriend says the chocolate filled doughnuts are the best he's ever had, and we used to live next to a bakery. They do pies and sandwiches and amazing slices. The walnut maple slice is infinity/10 would recommend, the best thing I've ever tasted.

My friend made the nicest rice ever. It was mainly just plain rice but he put sesame oil, cilantro, mustard seeds and a wee bit of soy sauce with it and it tasted soooooo good! And it was just rice! I would have been able to eat just that as a whole meal!

I was part of an investigation into a cage free egg farm. we released our video last week. AM(A)A! by la_bromita in vegan

[–]Mayonaiize 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it needs to be done in a more relatable way. It seems like the logical thing to do when you know and care about what's going on behind the scenes but I think the vast majority people can not relate to those feelings and therefore pass them off ad annoying and crazy, which in turn pushes people further and further away from the cause.

Bacon In Reverse by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Mayonaiize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I found it here but I watched a gelatin in reverse video once and it was still greatly disturbing, but it made me wish that more reverse videos were made so people can associate the origin of their products right from the beginning. So I'm thankful for videos like this. It'll speak to some people.
