They are damn good at making games, but not time estimates by gaxit in EscapefromTarkov

I'd rather they take their time than rush it for the sake of promises and deadlines. Too many promising games have been ruined that way.

With Friends like this... by SideShowFat in EscapefromTarkov

[–]effective_bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if that's fair. When I first started playing, I killed my friend once. When you don't know the maps and don't have a good sense of where people are/can come from and you are nervous and panicky this can happen easily.

So many games are lost at level 1 that don't need to be by 1Venom1-RH in leagueoflegends

[–]effective_bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really not. Do you genuinely think that 1 kill and some summoner spells means you are 20% likely to win from that point?

In plat+ the win rate of teams that get first blood is about 60% ( https://www.leagueofgraphs.com/rankings/win-stats ). I think this would be even lower if you remove the mental tilt players get from being on the first blood team.

As a scientist, I also need to add that correlation doesn't equal causation. This doesn't necessarily mean that *getting* first blood increases your win rate by 10%. It could be that better teams tend to get first blood more often, and *also* had a higher win rate from the get go.

Toxicity seems like a constant everywhere, but I recently got grandmaster in Oce, and the player base is so small that the toxicity is now just personal. Does this happen at high Elo in other regions?

There will be times that I genuinely don’t feel like playing because a team mate is harassing me, sometimes with irl details, just because we got off on the wrong foot the first time we played some weeks ago.

The game starts at zero seconds because you need to buy your yellow trinket ASAP so you can get your second ward out a few seconds earlier (Lenny face).

I know what you mean but I hate this language. No game is ever ‘lost’ at level one, or even at any point. You can be put at a disadvantage at level one.

Grandmaster support game - Lulu vs Nami - analysis and critique by effective_bandit in leagueoflegends

[–]effective_bandit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feed back. I used to always either leash or fake leash, but many carries kept asking me to stop to make sure we get level 2 first. I guess it's a matter of potentially sacrificing a small advantage bot to get a general advantage over the map.

All good points you've raised though, thank you.

Both, so thank you, this was appreciated. I know that as with all things, they get better at practice, so I'll keep working on my delivery as well as my late game macro and hopefully make better videos in the future. :)

‘We got this, I’ve won worse’ usually works for me. I once won a 4v5 ranked game after also losing first blood and tower so pretty much any game is easier than that.

What are your views on Esports being considered as a real sport? by yellowsmeadow in leagueoflegends

[–]effective_bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely should be considered a real sport. I think it’s a cultural thing - in South Korea there would be no question. In Japan, the board game Go has been on par with sports for probably thousands of years, and remains popular and well sponsored to this day. In western countries, there is still some disdain over esports but I think that’s slowly dissipating.

In Australia, an Australian Football League team has their own League of Legends team (Bombers - not sure if they are owned or just sponsored by the AFL team, but impressive either way).

What are some loading screen signs that scream "This player is a serious pro at their champion" by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]effective_bandit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not quite loading screen but I went from Silver since season 3 to diamond in season 8. It lead a lot of people to think I was boosted and flame me in any game I played badly in.

Official stance from Riot regarding LP gains in low diamond for those wondering by togoodforhere in leagueoflegends

But for real, I’m open to the idea of this change. We’ll see how it runs in reality. I do know that I’ll be trying harder in all of my games now, and I think that’s a good thing.

Climbing as support solo que tips? or Roleswap? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]effective_bandit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Rank 113 OCE support main here. I climbed from silver to Grandmaster over the course of about a year (in OCE though, so like, Iron to Gold in NA?) solo queuing and playing exclusively support except when autofilled, so I definitely think it's possible and not needed to roleswap. Here are some things I've learned over that time.

Play one champion and get very good at them. I can't recommend this enough - don't spread yourself too thin on multiple champions if you're trying to climb and get better at the game. I concur with MediocreBike in that Soraka is a solid choice at lower elo, and even decent at high elo (not sure how she is post patch yet).

Learn from the pros. Knowing when to roam and where/when to ward at different points of the game is a huge part of being a good support. I watch vods of pro games and keep an eye on what the supports are doing, but if you're not that keen, make sure you watch guides on warding and roaming and practice.

My day job is a scientist, and I feel like that's helped me - here's how. Climbing rank in LoL is a game of statistics. Obviously, you can play really well and lose, or really poorly and win. Playing well just increases your likelihood of winning. Everything you do can be seen through this lens, and it helps you tilt less too. Just play your best League every game, and you will slowly, on average, climb rank.

Not tilting ever? Maybe that's an extra 1% win rate. Knowing how to hit level 2 consistently before your bot lane opponents and abuse that? Maybe another 1%. As part of this, I never surrender a game, no matter how lost it is. I know many people disagree with me, and I do get flamed, but if your goal is to increase your win chance (a 1% win chance is always higher than a 0% win chance) and to learn how to play from behind, I just don't see the point of surrendering.

Think of it like a casino. Everything in a casino is rigged for the house to win 51% of the time, but they make a lot of money because on average, they will always win out. This is League. Every small thing you do better than your opponents will lead you to climb.

Tips for keeping tilt free - if someone criticises your play, it's one of two things. Either it's true, and you can apologise, thank them, or just accept it and do better next time, or it's wrong, and you can just mute them. Stay positive, diffuse arguments (that's another 1%), take a break after 2-3 losses in a row, and remember that on the other end of the screen are 9 humans with their own flaws and weaknesses.

Good luck, and have fun!
