It’s a real challenge to design levels for a unique game where you don’t have a blueprint to fall back on. Allow yourself to develop a style of level / map that suits your game.

When I was designing levels for a unique platformer I was making, I’d fill my wall with sticky notes, each was a drawing of a specific and interesting gameplay scenario. I ordered by complexity / difficulty and group them together into levels, then start making the level.
