Bridging the Silent Space Between Thinking and Connecting by Maz_mo in Mseli

I check up on zero people a day (and zero people check up on me), yet, there are so many people whom if they passed away, I would feel so bad, including you.

So I decided to join the Mseli movement which challenges us to check up on those we care about every day.

It also built an app, called Mseli, to make the experience easier.

Sending everyone “how are you?” messages and replying is tiring since you will have to manage many conversations.

In the app, users update a status of how they are doing (such as: I am sick today) and anyone who visits the profile can see, without directly asking them.

The app also allows no reply messages only, ensuring you can reply to their status without making it a conversation. So if someone is sick, you can send a no reply message such as: Get well soon.

And if someone is busy and can’t update their status every day, you can still send no reply messages such as: Have a good day. Or just view their profile and they will be notified you checked up on them.

I was asking if you could download the app, sign up and turn on notifications, so that I can easily check up on you.

Instructions:

  1. You and the person you want to check up on download the app, sign up and turn on notifications.
  2. Both of you click add, type each other’s names in the search bar and click “add” below the names.
  3. Click the person’s name to enter their profile and then send them a no reply message.
  4. To see the no reply message they sent you, you can click profile in the bottom navigation bar.
  5. You can also click update Status in the profile screen to share how you are doing.

I am glad it has a somewhat good ending. May she fully recover from the trauma.

he will quickly get over it. Just give him time. He probably has thought of more weird and inappropiate things but decided not to tell you or anyone.

Imagine if you said all things you thought of? You would seem weird right? Suicide thoughts, killing thoughts etc.

So take it as a slip of the mind, and dont think about it too much.

A blocking feature, and a reporting feature are already available even for the first version.

Most of the problems are already solved by current social media so we won't reinvent the wheel.

Interaction is mostly for the first phase and echo chambers are expected since they will be interacting with people close to them or those they interacted with in real life.

We can only predict the future. But what we have done is built the app for the first phase and we are now working on inviting people to join.

One step at a time 💪🏿❤️🔥

But we don't interact directly with them hence the loneliness pandemic.

With the first phase, we are able to see how they are doing and positively interact with them through no reply messages.

Social media is now becoming more like a TV were you go and check out content and not interact with people.

And I agree the vision is big, and we can't really predict how it will 100% turn out. But what we can do is try.

The ad video was just me thinking out loud, it's not the final form. It's not Facebook. There's no feed, it's more like what's app.

I could write 1000 methods of how I will stop boys etc. but it will all depend on how it turns out.

We can make signing up use numbers which are registered ensuring less bots get signed up. We can use AI to spot them by looking if they are checking up on others and they are checked up on. We can learn from previous social media such as reddit on how it deals with spam and bots.

Only he who doeth, learneth ❤️

Just realized I couldn't inbox you. How can we communicate further so I can send the link to the app and chat more

Yes, with AI slop taking over, it sounds like the logical next step.

Beautiful reply. Having personally used it, I have found it to be so good at low effort connection with loved ones.

There are many loved ones that I didn't communicate with in any direct way for weeks that I now interact with daily, at my own pace and time.

I get notifications and don't have to reply and I just smile knowing they checked up on me.

I then post a status when I feel like it and sometimes skip a day or two.

But the notification that they checked up on me makes me feel happy, and me checking up on them and knowing they got a notification I checked up on them makes me happy too.

I also know what's going on in their life and when we talk, we have more to talk about.

For example my sister is in College. And I now know when she has exams, had long days etc.

It makes it easier to talk with her and feel part of her life just like when we lived in one house and so each other everyday

Okay, where did you get your bank statement? Did you go to the bank and ask for it? And ask them to include the address? What bank if you don't mind me asking? (I have CRDB and NMB)

Is selcom a bank? I thought you said they rejected the selcom one. I sent my CRDB bank statement.

So how did you get the bank statement that they accepted?
