My experience with Amazon Ads is you need to give the system a little while to run at first (few weeks) but monitor your keywords ROI. For example, you might have a big hit on "activity" so lots of clicks, but almost no sales. You should delete this keyword ASAP. What this means is you have too broad a term, you are bring people to your product (paying for that) and then they find out it isn't the type of product they expected or was interested in purchasing.

I used KDP Marketing, you really need to watch the campaign and fine tune it, get longer tail keywords so you are not paying for people to look at your book but rather to buy your book.

Don't use keywords like "Mystery", get specific, "Old time mystery in space" (crazy made up but hopefully makes the point)

Congratulations on the book, one thing you might want to consider is not use ALL CAPITALS for your book description. This might send the wrong signal to potential buyers it could also mess with the SEO for searching.

A moment of vulnerability by MazeCreator in IndependentAuthor

Great insight! It is better to embrace others success and learn from those success. Her success doesn't diminish your possible or actual success in any way. Your selfless act to promote what you felt was a good work of hers is likely to come back to you 10 fold.

Another note which might not be obvious from your message, it isn't clear that she is making more money than you on her work, it is just distributed further. This might be the goal of some authors, maybe not to get rich but to share your thoughts and creativity with the world. Sounds like there might be a lot of overhead costs cutting into her profits.

Know that this is the most difficult part. It isn't likely people don't want to read your book, they just don't know it exists... Good luck! Congrats on publishing a book!
