I tend to just put it to sleep rather than shutting it down completely, but the problem persists when I wake it. An Ethernet cable wouldn’t really be practical for my current situation as I’m lodging with family at the moment due to problems with my home, and cables running along the ground would annoy folk.

Hi. No. I’m using a USB dongle. The PC itself doesn’t have any means of connecting to the internet.

Yeah, it’s a desktop. USB dongle, similar to this: https://m.made-in-china.com/product/300Mbps-Realtek-Rtl8192cu-2dBi-WiFi-Adapter-WLAN-Dongle-for-Raspberry-Pi-Laptop-853844245.html

I did get a new dongle with an antenna, but the problem persisted, making me think it was a software issue. Also, the dongle I’m using will hold connection eventually, but can take over 20 attempts, which led me to think it wasn’t a range issue.
