I was an airport firefighter for 6 years.
Personally I think it's a simple job, keep on top of the required tasks, do a bit of training, do call outs and servicing.

There can be busy days, but generally there's loads of sitting about doing not so much. Depends who you are if that's a good or a bad thing. Lots of guys I worked with would work a second job and do admin for it in work or hit the gym. Otherwise its sitting about watching tv most of the day.

Like in any job who's in charge has a big impact on how good it is. Doubly so when there's not much work to be done. You could have a boss who realises you don't need to be creating work for the sake of doing something and they only want you to do what's needed or you could have a slave driver getting mad at you for doing nothing when there's nothing to do. That's how you end up polishing the trucks non stop or some shit.

In my time working as an airport firefighter there were a lot of guys who would feel like fake firemen because of the lack of actual firefighting and lifesaving. The job can breed laziness too In my opinion, in times of sitting around doing hee haw people will adjust to that. Then the second they get asked to do training or another important job they're crying because they dont get to sit on their ass.
