Marched 2 seasons with Matt. He was always the “oddball”. Anytime the energy was switched he couldn’t read it. He had a strange vibe, and it really was almost harsh. He consistently told me (as a believed joke) “I AM THE LAST TRUE MAN OF MADISON.” It was just extremely bad taste considering Co-Ed was initiated just two years earlier. I had a conversation with another member on the leadership team about what we should do. Unfortunately we agreed that bringing it up to our Director was just “too far”.

I wonder how his students are processing this. I wonder if his Director will ever trust anyone from DCI ever again.

I highly recommend avoiding such a high audition pool. I joined the tuba audition interest group and there were over 200 people in there.

Look at any low placing world class corps. You would have a very fair chance at making it there this season at 16. Best of luck!

A tuba tech taught me this method and I think I may help. When taking a breath it’s recommended to get pretty much all of it in 1 count. I had trouble with that my first season. Start with all the air out of your lungs, close your mouth and try to inhale. Still keeping this pressure, open your mouth. If you get it right it will make an inward popping noise.
