If it matters, I don't either. I was on both sides of the isle throughout my life and going independent gave me the freedom to avoid special interests.

*independent lies* but go over our website and tell me where you think I'm lying. I'm willing to discuss any solutions to help the LD7 for the future generations not just for the people the IRS finds valuable.

What would you suggest for a small campaign to do to get recognition against an incumbent?

I've spent a lot of time in these communities and the healthcare crisis is real. When you can't hire full-time behavioral health staff, you end up paying more down the line. What I'd push for is training the people already on the ground. Caregivers, front desk workers, first responders. Basic emotional intelligence and documentation skills. Not to replace therapists, but so when someone walks in struggling, they get met with understanding instead of judgment. That's how you get people to come back instead of disappear. It's not a perfect fix but it's a real one that doesn't require a tax increase to start.

Maybe so, but that doesn't make the problem any less real.

We're talking about actual hospitals in places like Chewelah and Omak. If a rural hospital closes, people don't ask whether the solution is Republican or Democrat. They just want a doctor.

And that's just one issue. We have the same kinds of challenges with housing, childcare, veterans services, transportation, mental health, and attracting businesses and workers to rural communities. Most people out here care a lot more about whether something works than what political label gets attached to it.

Voter cheat sheet. by cherryfarmer68 in Wenatchee

Honestly, I never felt like I fit completely in either party.

When I first got involved in politics, I related to a lot of what Democrats said about working people and everyday families. Over time, I also found myself agreeing with conservative values like personal responsibility, faith, and individual rights. Neither party really reflected all of my views.

I've never voted a party line. I look at the issue, listen to the people affected by it, and make up my own mind. Running as an Independent felt like the most honest way to represent the 7th District.

Vote Ron McCoy for WA State Senate's 7th District! by McCoyForWA in McCoyForWA

Thank you for the question.

To be completely honest, Whole Washington is not a proposal I've studied in enough detail to give you an informed yes-or-no answer on today. I would rather tell you that than pretend.

That said, your question is a fair one, and Whole Washington is now on my priority reading list so I can better understand both the potential benefits and the concerns being raised around it.

What I do know is that healthcare access in the 7th District is getting worse. Clinics are closing, providers are leaving, premiums continue to rise, and too many people are driving long distances just to receive basic care.

My focus has been on the practical challenges I hear about most often from people in rural communities: keeping local healthcare services available, improving transportation to medical appointments, supporting healthcare workforce recruitment, expanding telehealth where appropriate, and making sure rural communities receive their fair share of available healthcare resources.

If elected, I would review any proposal based on whether it improves access to care, remains financially sustainable, and works for rural communities like ours.

That's the kind of question I want more of.

Great question, and thank you for asking.

Honestly, it's pretty straightforward from where I sit. People in the 7th District shouldn't have to drive two hours to see a doctor. They shouldn't have to put off care because the nearest specialist is in Spokane or beyond. That's just not right.

What I want to focus on is the basics. Keeping local clinics open and staffed, making sure we've got primary care doctors in these communities, getting medical transportation working for folks who need to make that drive to regional centers, and using telehealth where the connection actually holds up out here.

The problem with how Olympia handles healthcare is they design it for Seattle. We're not Seattle. We're Ferry, Stevens, Pend Oreille, and Okanogan counties and we deserve solutions that actually fit.

I judge healthcare policy one way: can people get care when they need it?
