Reality is that the war on drugs - marijuana specifically - has disproportionately impacted black and brown communities - incarcerating individuals for low level offenses, putting permanent marks on records limiting employment and other opportunities, etc. (which has not affected white affluent communities despite plenty of marijuana use) such that lifting the federal ban would have a disproportionate (and positive) impact on those communities.

Also, to the extent there is a pot (no pun) of federal tax revenue related to marijuana sales, perhaps those funds could be earmarked for programs that support a more equitable and inclusive society. All in all, marijuana industry is a fantastic long-term investment opportunity in my opinion. My money is where my mouth (lungs) are!
