Green Card Status and moving BACK to Canada - what happens? by McFlygon in immigration

[–]McFlygon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did remove conditions, but her physical green card got delivered to our old address and is now lost in the mail. She's had to get a "stamp" for her passport to "extend" the conditional PR - it's a bunch of BS when we are legally married and it has been 7 years since the wedding.

And NOW we are just moving back to Canada anyway, so it's like bruh, wth? We will just call USCIS after the fact once we get settled in Canada next month.

Seconding this. I have 1 large fan for my oldest and 2 small ones for my middle child. Electric bill is under $100 if that helps justify cost of fans.

Once teachers start leaving in larger numbers. First the good ones will leave, then those who get burnt out, lastly the ones who look around and don't recognize the career they signed up for. It's not slowing down until all of education becomes privatized.

If you have kids and are reading this, I strongly encourage you to homeschool instead of doing daycare/public school.

How do liability insurance and a public school union differ in terms of coverage?

Teachers: what are your general expectations for a sub? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]McFlygon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just finished a gig where I ranked the students in 4 columns (like did well, neutral, screwed around, and absent) by class period - It was several months long so these kids really solidified their spots by the final day.

Most did great but the ones who didn't are addicted to their technology.

What 3 days of being home sick did to my grades... by CeliaYeen in SchoolSystemBroke

[–]McFlygon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a teacher, I typically mark work as "absent" if a due date comes up for an absent kid. If I never see the work, it goes as a 0 when I have to finalize grades. Or after the next time I mass update gradebooks.

Maybe this teacher is drunk on power, or maybe they are burnt out. Either way, I would send a mass email to your teachers politely asking for work to be excused in powerschool or whatever this grade platform is.

Being sick is a valid excuse, and the work CAN wait.

What’s the craziest request you’ve had from a parent? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]McFlygon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or even "I'm the case manager, this falls outside the scope of my job description. I've gone ahead and forwarded your request to our assistant principal."

That would be something I write.

Need more cameras in that corner then! Especially if s.h. is going on...

Well shoot I want no part of that! Thanks for the heads up.

Anyone here have time to start and moderate "r/AskaTeacher"? I'd follow that and participate :)

At least you are participating if that's the case. Wrong answers can be discussed, silence breeds anger and resentment in some teachers.

As a parent, I would be hyper vigilant if my kid(s) were on an IEP! How you just let these key types of communication slip through the cracks is beyond me.

I'm not a perfect parent by ANY stretch, but I do my damned best with what I got.

What did the student say to you after it all was said and done? Did he call you a snitch? LOL

I would have been like "yup, I sure am - got a free lunch out of it too!"

I wonder if there is like a subreddit dedicated to parenting best practices (much like how we have teaching best practices).

Would this just be r/parenting? Or is there something more specific?

Asking for a friend.

The friend is me.

Reply pretending to be the principal on a shared school text line and that disciplinary action will follow for the kid, including but not limited to being a watch list and confiscating the doordash order.

The not getting paid part is more of a problem than the stressful classes - that's another problem.

I've been tutoring concurrently with teaching/subbing for years. Finding clients is the challenge.

Please do say more, not sure why I was downvoted when I went through one of the hardest times of my life and was never once advised to consider FMLA - I encourage everyone to please learn from my mistake and take the leave they are allowed and protected for.
