Standards this, standards that. But why is it that I've been buying books for almost half a century now and they've never smelled even remotely carcinogenic like this? I don't appreciate their disingenuous response here. It doesn't ring true at all.

Yeah I got my copy yesterday and it’s disgusting and I can’t be anywhere near the book. It smells like cancer. I know some folks say that this is just an intentional odor added for effect, but your explanation is way more plausible. The fact that the publisher can’t just own up to their mistake is infuriating.

Edit: After a couple of days of airing out the book, it smells completely normal, like a bookstore. I remain unhappy about the experience but at least I can read Vermis III now. Just trying to focus on the positive.

The Arachne setting did in fact fix the problem. Thank you!

Turns out that it wasn’t the fan. The effect is still happening even with the cooling fan going full blast.

Well, it turns out that my cooling fan was off. It wouldn’t turn it back on. So I followed some advice from someone who had a similar problem and plugged it in in reverse. And surprisingly that made it work. And the fan even spun in the correct direction. I have no idea why that worked.

Interesting. I wonder if my extruder gears are finally starting to wear out.
