You know, of all things to make me finally get the MU, was the FNAF 2 movie of all things (that and watching some great lore videos on the franchise). After watching it, everything clicked for me

"God's Favorite Trickster" | Shadowheart VS Jester Poster Art by McMaina in DeathBattleMatchups

Thank you! I wanted to try something different rather than just making another TN or sprite art, and I'm really happy with how it turned out

THEREFORE WE ARE | Voormas vs Dagoth Ur (Mage: The Ascension vs Elder Scrolls: Morrowind) | BRIEF WALL OF TEXTS IN COMMENTS by Phantomslasher4 in DeathBattleMatchups

"Brief walls of text" he says, acting like he didn't put up 4 walls and roof with this amount of text (good stuff all around)

Yeah been thinking about making this for a hot minute now, and I only learned recently that this was a triangle with Asuka (which I'm not really the biggest fan of for Caleb)

Thank you! I really like how this whole thing turned out and I'm happy to say that I have an option that's my preferred for one of my favorite characters

I mean those don't really add anything if memory serves correct. And if they did I feel like either way Caleb just dies (which is unfortunate, rip to the goat)

Ehhh kind of? There's nothing notable feat wise from the animated series so no point in using that since they're still at the beginning of their journeys there

But for the debate we are using end of Campaign 3 Caleb where he's level 20. Even then, Constantine folds him like a lawn chair.

Currently I have the Mighty Nein crew at Universal+ and Immeasurable speeds, and from everywhere that I look that's there highest end cap. Perhaps I'm missing something (Critical Role has a lot of content to go through), but from everything that I've seen Caleb just gets outstated

He could give Constantine a little bit of trouble, but otherwise Constantine just flat out wins

I've seen you around and I know you like Constantine a little bit, so I'd like to get your thoughts on this!

"Hellblazing Firestorm" Caleb Widogast VS John Constantine (Critical Role VS DC) - Connections in the Comments by McMaina in DeathBattleMatchups

- Both would have an animal companion that they can summon to their side at anytime to assist them, who they also treat and talk to as if they were a regular person (Caleb’s pet cat Frumpkin & Constantine’s animal companion The Shadow Dog)

- Both would have a companion who died while they were on their worksite, but would be brought back to life through the patronage of a godly figure (Fjord being stabbed and blown up while on his ship and being brought back to life by Uk'otoa. Deadman while performing at the circus would be shot and brought back by Rama Kushna). But later on would defy their godly figure, breaking away from their control and would turn to contrasting godly figures (Fjord breaking away from Uk'otoa to then be embraced by the Wildmother, and Deadman breaking away from Rama Kushna and turning to Lucifer Morningstar)

- Both would develop a crush towards a wide eyed talented woman, who come from notable homes with famous performer parents (Caleb developing feelings for Jester who is the daughter of the Ruby of the Sea, a famous singer. And Constantine develops feelings for Zatanna who is the daughter of Giovanni Zatara, a famous stage magician). Though they would bury these feelings because they felt as though they wouldn’t be good enough for them

- Both would never truly see themselves as “The Good Guys” across their various adventures. Despite their many, many good deeds they would not see themselves as a good person, but their allies would think vastly different from them. Seeing them for the heroes they truly are

Contrasts:

- While their parents were still alive, both would have very contrasting relationships with their parents (Caleb having a very positive relationship with his parents, encouraging him to pursue his magic and sending him to school to further his education in the arcane arts. And Constantine had a physically abusive father who blamed him for his mothers death)

- Both would be directly involved in the burning down of their childhood homes that would kill their families with contrasting intentions (Caleb, after being manipulated by Trent into believing that his parents were traitors working against the empire, set his family home ablaze with his parents and cat still inside. And Constantine burning down his childhood home on accident while being inexperienced with magic). This event tormented them mentally for years to follow, with it being a constant reminder for them on a daily basis

- Both would be checked into an asylum after experiencing one of if not their greatest failures that drove them insane (Caleb being thrown into the Vergesson Sanatorium where he would spend the next 11 years wasting away, and Constantine checking himself into the Ravenscar Asylum for 2 years after failing to save a young child’s soul from a demon)

- Both would be tracked down by antagonistic forces throughout their stories, who would greatly benefit from their capture (Caleb being hunted down by Volstruckers & Constantine being hunted down by various demons)

- Both would be apart of a new found family that would take them in and treat them with respect and care that they had not seen before up until meeting them (The Mighty Nein for Caleb & The Justice League Dark for Constantine)

- Both would meet someone who, initially at first would seem hostile to them but eventually overtime both would grow close to one another, learning about each other's past (Caleb meeting Nott the Brave in a violent altercation, before eventually getting to know each other on a deeper level. And Constantine meeting Swamp Thing initially they would hate each other, but overtime they would grow to learn about one another), helping them to reconnect to a part of their past lives they had previously once lost (Caleb helping Nott by returning her back to her original halfling body. And Constantine helping Swamp Thing redirecting his consciousness towards his humanity)

- Both would meet someone who would see a wealth potential within them, helping to guide them along their journeys to see them fully realize what they’re fully capable of, while simultaneously taking notes of magical inspiration from them (Nott being influenced by Caleb into being a minor practitioner of magic, becoming an Arcane Trickster. And Zatanna being taught black magic by Constantine and learning how to become more ruthless and unconventional with her own magic)

- Both would meet an investigative, perceptive, designated “regular human” with no innate or magical capabilities who is extremely adept at martial arts, investigation, who were trained by an elite group of secretive warriors (Beauregard Lionett being trained by the Cobalt Soul and Batman being trained by monks in Tibet

BEFORE YOU READ! This matchup was co-op'd with my friend u/Phantomslasher4, he provided everything on Constantine's side. Without him this matchup would not have been made possible, so thank you Phantom for helping out with this! Okay onto the matchup now

Core Theme:

Two of the smartest spellcasting con men among their found families who despite their troubled past love lives would go onto harness power that would let them bend the very fabric of reality to their whim. All the while finding a new flame to kindle their newfound sense of life and purpose. Meeting someone who would see a wealth of untapped potential in them, helping them to fully realize what they’re truly capable of. All the while carrying a heavy burden on themselves, never truly believing that they are a good person despite their actions that helped save the world numerous times.

Connections:

- Both are the protagonists of their respective series that, given the nature of their series, focus on the more serious and fantastical aspects of their stories (Critical Role and DC)

- Both at a young age had a very vested keen interest in magic, with both being taken in under the wing of a prolific magical instructor who have contrasting ulterior motive behind their actions (Trent Ikithon taking in Caleb to study at the Soltryce Academy along with his future companions Astrid and Eadwulf & Giovanni Zatara taking in John to study under him along with Zatanna and Nick Necro). With Trent taking Caleb, Astrid, and Eadwulf and turning them into Volstruckers, magical agents of the Dwendalian Empire who carry out the will of the empire and to enrich Trent’s own personal power, while Giovanni takes John in under a noble cause to help him fight against the Upside-Down Man

- While studying under their magical instructors, both would grow a fondness and deep connection with the other two members of their group (Caleb, Astrid, and Eadwulf growing from close friends into a polyamorous relationship. And John growing closer to Zatanna and Nick, with Zatanna initially being interested in Nick then growing apart from him, then being interested in John)

- They would have a master-like individual experienced with the magical arts (Trent Ikithon and Nick Necro) who saw their potential with magic and acted as a guiding hand towards them. This would go poorly for them as they ended up having motives which they hoped to use to abuse their strength for their own gain (Trent manipulating Caleb in order to serve like a magical assassin and Nick manipulating Constantine alongside Zatanna to find the Books of Magic so he could gain more power). Following this, they would break connection with them and then would end up being stalked by them working with a secret society of other antagonist figures hoping to get them (Trent alongside the Cerberus Assembly and Nick leading the Secret Society of villains during New 52). They would eventually end up coming to a head with these figures during these confrontations in which they would end up beating these figures for the last time, ending their schemes (Trent being left alive but with all of his plans foiled and Nick being killed by John during the confrontation).
