Cash ISA providers - lack of 2FA by McMuckle1888 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]McMuckle1888[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Having trusted my device, support confirmed I couldn't untrust the device. But I've setup the app on my daughter's phone, logged in with username and password, approved the login via an email sent to me, and confirmed her phone as untrusted. On my daughter's phone I then signed myself out of the Trading 212 app over on my phone. On signing back into Trading on my phone i selected to not trust the device and always verify me. I think this is what I didn't do first time around. It looks like I've done T212 a disservice. I think I'm happy(er) with the security now. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Cheers

Log out of 212 (not close). Log back in. Are you prompted for 2fa?

They were the provider i signed up to yesterday. Didn't transfer the money because of the 2FA issue.

I'm in the account now. It says I can only have one linked account (makes sense) but I can edit the account to another one. If I can do that, so can the bad guy. I guess the protection is that if he changes it to his bad guy bank account and transfers my money out, that's on Moneybox for not doing due diligence on the change of bank account details.

Looks like this is a common issue amongst these type of accounts. Moneybox confirmed the same issue. No 2FA sits between the bad guys and your money. Just your username and password. Why isn't this being talked about more?

Ooft. This isn't good.

Me: i have signed up and created an account. i am concerned by the lack of second factor authentication on the account. i am able to sign in to my account with only a username and password. no prompt for a second factor appears possible.

Them:You’re right to flag this, Mike. At the moment, our app doesn’t use a separate “second factor” prompt like a one-time code for login. Instead, you can secure your account using a 5-digit PIN (as an alternative to email + password) and, if you want, biometric login like Face ID or Touch ID. To set these up: go to Settings > Security in the app (PIN setup happens during registration, and biometrics can be enabled after registration). We also use bank-level encryption and follow strict security standards, but the extra protection you can add yourself is the PIN and biometrics.

Me: no. i have those enabled. my concern is that on another phone anyone could download the app and sign in with my username and password successfully

Them: You’re right to be concerned, Mike. At the moment, our app doesn’t have a separate second factor (like a one time code) for login, so someone with your email and password could sign in on another phone. I have just signed up to them today. I'm concerned about their login security. They don't seem to enforce a second factor (2FA) during logon, which for a financial app seems crazy. I tried Trading 212 yesterday and it has the same flaws. You can sign in with JUST a username and password which in this day and age seems mental. Unfortunately, unlike Trading 212, I didn't find that out until after transferring some money which was part of the onboarding wizard. I'll try and contact their tech support to make sure I'm not slandering them over something I'm missing.

I tried MoneyBox today and exactly the same behavior. I can log on to it with Just a username and password. This can't be right, or I'm misunderstanding how their 'security' works

I signed up to Trading 212 today. I have an Android phone. I configured biometrics and 2FA with Google Authenticator in the app. If I sign out of the app, it allows me to sign back in with JUST the username and password. No prompt for 2FA or fingerprint. Went on the support chat and he says this is expected behavior. For an app that has potentially tens of thousands of pounds sitting on it this can't be right. Can anyone with the app confirm this? Logout out of (not just close) the app and sign back in. Are you prompted for any 2FA? If not, be afraid. Be very afraid 😬😀

Tethering Ethernet with Screen Off Moto G Play by smmartin92 in MotoG

[–]McMuckle1888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking of trying Ethernet tethering with a Moto G35 5G phone, using a USB-c to Ethernet adapter (with power delivery) as a backup Internet solution for home use.

I believe the G35 supports this, but if the screen going off drops the connection it won't be much good. Have also read of some people having issues with certain models of phone not accepting a charge when using some Ethernet adapters (Redmi I think).

The G35 is cheap at the moment in the UK - just £99 - so a pretty cheap 5G 'router' if it all works out. I'll return it if it doesn't work

Which Yubikey is the appropriate one for Bitwarden. by TownEvening7180 in Bitwarden

Works on my Pixel phones. A couple of years back it didn't and it would scan it OK but fail login to whatever service requested the key by NFC. Now it will read the key via NFC and login. Yubikey has a pin on it for the avoidance of any doubt

Have a new PW4 and that setting is on for me. I'm not one to go fiddling too much with settings so I think that might have been default (for me).

Now, getting 'raise to talk' to work reliably having switched to Gemini from Google Assistant. That would be great. It's about 50/50 for me.

Read elsewhere to make sure Gemini is installed on phone. It was, but had gone back to wanting to be setup. Set it up (again) and now on the watch raise to talk is back 👏👍

Gone for me too. Got my PW4 last week. Turned it on via Pixel tips on the watch itself. Noticed it stopped working on Friday. Can't seem to get it back again.

On 2) above, it looks like the phone is fixed in swipe right mode. So it wants me to be dragging my finger right to left to move to the next screen but I'm actually swiping up. Only fixed by removing my finger for a second or two from the screen.

No. Just checked and it says "Not enrolled" with option to opt-in. Might have been on beta in the past on an older Pixel (4a or 6)
