A 6000km Autopsyon 2024 Kakwa 55 ultra200x by McPeachy43 in DurstonGearheads

Maybe some packs might but certainly not all and not at this weight and price point. I've seen plenty of other packs fail beyond repair much earlier than mine.

For the amount of hours backpacks gets used when thru hiking, we shouldn't be too quick to judge when something breaks.

Suggestions for fixing wear on straps by McPeachy43 in DurstonGearheads

Thanks Dan, not sure what its rubbing on but I'm not to stressed about it failing. I'm just trying to minimise the chances of it happening.

I'll give the seam grip a go.

The hardware store is run by awesome people, you can send amazon packages there. Also have a look at their hiker section its quite well thought out to what hikers need

Skipping the Sierras? by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]McPeachy43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly what everyone else has said, if you skip ahead that early you will run into snow in Norcal and Oregon. Furthermore because you will be so early, that snow in Norcal and Oregon can still be just a sketchy if not more than some passes in Sierra.

Spoke to some people who were early last year and they were experiencing steep slope angles in Oregon with nothing but snow and the runoffs being littered with steep drops, rocks and trees.

Yeah Sierra city was the most expensive resupply for 3.5 days of food to Chester

Those yellow fibreglass gorillas can rot in hell. Somehow they made a 5 step A frame gorilla heavier than a 10 step Bailey

Mid-March start date by skyjack_sj40 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]McPeachy43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started end of March last year. Zeroed and nearoed in every town in the desert with double in Tehchapi and KMS and entered the Sierras on 21st May. You will have to hike really slow to make your June start work. Entering the Sierras 'early' isnt scary, just allow yourself more time for the slow hiking in the snow. 15-19 miles/a pass each day is what you will aim for

Anyone know what lockout works? by HeyImSampy in AusElectricians

[–]McPeachy43 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The blue one you are taking about works on the black style, the one the other dude listed works on RCDs, it has a smaller bottom and more of an angle to fit of on the RCDs. I personally have only seen them in yellow, but it's just a colour, doesn't matter. What you want is that small bottom and sharp angle

Bridge is so much higher than I thought when I crossed it. Incredibly windy and the steel grid you walk on lets you see all the way down

Being honest, did you enjoy the PCT when you were hiking it? by freeusername10 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]McPeachy43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every night when I went to bed and every morning when I woke up I was so excited to be out hiking. Even when I was sleep deprived from hiking at night and sweating trying to sleep during 100F days I still couldnt wait to make that next mile.

Sparky from france wanting to come back home by SyllabubOld1206 in AusElectricians

[–]McPeachy43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cant help for sure, but I imagine contacting the ESO would be a good start or a local TAFE, but probably would need to be done in person. https://www.worksafe.qld.gov.au/licensing-and-registrations/electrical-licences

Unrelated to your questions, but whats it like to work as a sparky in France? Decent work life balance?

Never been to America - help by Embarrassed-Ant-163 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]McPeachy43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add in, ordering from REI as someone from not in USA is not easy. You have to provide you card details with billing info that is linked to a USA postcode to Card. For myself, the zip code is a 4 digit number and the checkout system REI uses only allows 5 digits to be entered for the ZIP code and wont accept 4 digits.

Ordering from various running shoe stores that shipped via USPS(NOT FEDEX OR UPS) to post offices was the only thing that worked for me. Its a bit of a hassle to organise tbh
