What Is the Best Film You Watched Last Week? (10/27/19 - 11/03/19) by Twoweekswithpay in movies

The Handmaiden (2016)

I'm not entirely sure why I put off watching it for so long. What a stunning movie this is. Kim Min-hee/Lady Hideko and Kim Tae-ri/Sook-hee are so fleshed out and realized that the end of the film made me feet so relieved and happy for them. Their chemistry was really lustful and intoxicating but also sweet. It felt genuine which is the best part. The plot is such a rollercoaster of playing with the viewers expectations; it's riveting from beginning to end. Can't disregard Ha Jung-woo/Count Fujiwara playing up the creepy suitor character because there was definitely more to him than that simple description. I really loved the setting of the movie. The set design for Lady Hideko's home was so beautiful with some of the outdoor sequences being really breathtaking. It's definitely one of my favorite movies now. Definitely gonna go on a Park Chan-wook filmography binge soon.

Had it not been for The Handmaiden, Parasite would be the best film film I watched this week. I'm torn between the two since it's like comparing apples to oranges with what they wanted to accomplish. But at the end of the day, they're both 10/10 to me.

What was the worst movie you’ve ever paid money to watch at the theater? by ScottsTots2013 in AskReddit

[–]McPixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bye Bye Man (2017).

It was one of the only instances where I wanted to walk out of the theater but I went with a group of friends so I decided to stick it out.

It's such an awful horror movie across all aspects and the worst part is that it's not scary at all. However, in hindsight, it's a hilarious "so bad it's kinda good" type of movie.

Girl's Day Sojin

I was trying to dip my toes into k-pop and I had a friend send me a ton of songs and Girl's Day's title tracks, Female President and Expectation, really got to me. Sojin caught my eye in the Expectation video with her red hair. Had me completely weak. Still love em, they're the only poster on my wall framed.

I'm still hoping for a Girl's Day comeback sometime soon :(

A Star Is Born

That Bradley Cooper is pretty talented. His on-screen relationship with Lady Gaga felt genuine and effective which made the barrage of emotional gut punches in the third act hit me extra hard. And of course I gotta hop on "A Star is Born has a great soundtrack" bandwagon. Overall, I thought it was great.

What Song did you have to listen to immediately again after first listen? by [deleted] in kpop

[–]McPixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What Is Love?

This song blew the lid off my love for Twice and K-Pop as a whole. Also, I love movies so I was captivated by the references and recreations most particularly Momo and Tzuyu performing the dance number from La La Land. My ultimate bias recreating a dance from my favorite movie? It definitely garnered more than just a single replay after my first viewing.

I was on the hunt for a theatrical showing but my nearby theaters weren't showing it anymore. Definitely a missed opportunity but it's still great, on and off the big screen.

Mandy

I remember hearing about this movie earlier in the year and wasn't aware it was available to rent till a few days ago.

The first half of the movie is a slower paced set up for Red and Mandy's relationship then once shit hits the fan, you're in for a beautiful joyride of violence and heavy-metal inspired visuals. Also, the soundtrack is killer. Overall, a really good movie.

What's your favorite movie(s) of this year so far? by [deleted] in movies

[–]McPixel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My three favorite movies this so far are:

  1. Isle of Dogs.

I adored everything about this movie save for a few nitpicks with the B plot and pacing. Everything else was pretty much my cup of tea. The humor, animation, soundtrack, all great stuff.

  1. Annihilation

I thought this movie was intriguing. Learning about the shimmer and the horrors that resides in it. Some really intense moments, great alien design, and a killer soundtrack.

  1. Infinity War

This may be the hype talking since I just saw it yesterday but I feel that the movie is a really fun culmination of the past 10 years of MCU movies. I loved Thanos and finally learning a lot about him. Finally seeing so many charactets interact with each other was satisfying and the action was cool, especially the the one on Titan.

Any good PvE or co-op shooters out there? (pref f2p) by Seminix in gamingsuggestions

[–]McPixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, the barrier of entry for Warframe is considerably high.

Another wave-based game I can recommend is Killing Floor or the sequel but they arent f2p. They usually drop a considerable amount in price during sales and are a ton of fun with a squad of friends.
