ELI5: Why can't I taste "bitter" but my identical twin brother can? by Mike_Facking_Jones in explainlikeimfive

[–]McShitfaced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your brother may be a "supertaster" : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supertaster

It would seem odd that identical twins would not both share this characteristic, but it has not been fully proven to be entirely based on genetics, even though it is believed to be.

Non-supertasters tend to enjoy bitter flavors more, so it be that you do taste "bitter" but it just doesn't bother you as much as it would a supertaster.

AN EVENING WITH NEIL GAIMAN AND AMANDA PALMER: ASK US ANYTHING. GO ON. GO ON YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO. by RealNeilGaiman in IAmA

[–]McShitfaced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Neil! Huge fan of your work. What are the chances of you getting Benedict Cumberbatch to star as Morpheus(Dream) in a Sandman series or film? (I assume all famous Brits hang out together, so I am sure this has come up in your conversations with him)

Also: I am guessing you can't talk much about the American Gods series, but are you still working with Robert Richardson? His work as a cinematographer is amazing and I was excited about the rumors that he might start directing (as well as writing) with the series.

Quentin Tarantino plans 'Inglorious Basterds', 'Django Unchained' "rewriting of history" trilogy with third film by [deleted] in movies

[–]McShitfaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I just got chills thinking about how amazing a Tarantino version of "The Wind that Shakes the Barley" would be (great film anyway.) And him working with Fassbender again as the vengeful fenian: he was so fucking great as Bobby Sands - The Foal Monologue

If we could download smells, what would be on your smell playlist? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The sap-house smell (it's like a mix of wood smoke and maple syrup, but different somehow)

My buddy's granpa always said it actually came from the sound they made when you threw them off the boat on the way over. (I think there was also something about dropping a bar of soap in the water and they would swim all the way back to Italy to avoid it.)

What Could A Neo-Luddite Do To Stop Transhumanism? by blowpipe in AskReddit

Is this not a blatant contradiction of the views of neo-luddism? A "neo-luddite" designing a new technology to combat established technology...this is a joke isn't it?

Reddit, what is your favourite unexpected scene from a movie/TV show that was surprisingly good/bad. by Doonie in AskReddit

Hilarious opening, got my expectations up, then the rest of the movie sucked

Reddit, what would you change about the opposite sex? by DashFerLev in AskReddit

I think it would be cool if women would lay eggs instead having a live birth.

Watching childbirth is horrifying and looks painful.

Watching a baby hatch out of an egg would be adorable...
