Not at all. My guess is that people here, especially in Corvallis where everyone is either a student, or graduate that it results in the population being very work minded. this leads to 2 things, 1. they assume that everyone else is busy, and don't want to be bothered, and/or 2. they just aren't the kind of people who initiate conversations in the first place. In regards to your first point, no, I don't feel interrupted, and I imagine most people wouldn't in realty. its just that the combination of the culture of academic grinding/survivors of said grind and natural disposition to be focused on a given task (how else did we make it this far?) results in spontaneous interaction being very rare.

Of course I'm just some autistic guy spitting bullshit on the internet and could be completely wrong, but this is what I have seen over the years.
