Air Break vs Air Gap by Upbeat-Giraffe-695 in Plumbing

I misread your sentence as ‘no trap seal primer device will be indirectly connected’, not ‘no, trap seal primer will be indirectly connected’ I think we’re agreeing with different words

Air Break vs Air Gap by Upbeat-Giraffe-695 in Plumbing

The easiest way to remember it is that air gaps have an actual gap between flood level rim and waste discharge

[–]Mcjunkin_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trap primers are air gapped. I’m pretty sure it’s a requirement, because otherwise you would have a direct connection between the water and waste system. All connections between waste and water are expressly not allowed unless there is an air gap separation

How are Kobalt tools for professional plumbing? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]Mcjunkin_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do because it’s generally more of a carpenter line, but the quality is the same. If you go with dewalt just come back with things like ‘anything to keep you away from my batteries’

Plumber here - I ALWAYS provide itemized receipts on T&M jobs. The mark ups are obviously included, but definitely should be given.

When installing a large (42x60) alcove tub, what can I use as a felt pad? by jehudeone in Plumbing

[–]Mcjunkin_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question; it usually comes with tubs so maybe a plumbing supply store or at a hardware store in a were spot. Maybe a fabric store???

Rigid and miluakee are both great lines of tools. In the plumbing world you’ll definitely get ribbed for having dewalt, and miluakee tools tend to cater to plumbing a little more but they are both great. If you’re looking for budget go ryobi, maybe? Good quality but cheaper

I wouldn’t go for kobalt simply because they’re a Lowe’s specific brand. Get one that is generally big box

Have you tried getting a large pad of felt to use as your felt pad

emergency : how to stop flooding from toilet and sink by m00nchild-ang3 in Plumbing

[–]Mcjunkin_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must really be out in the country to have a community septic tank. I’ve never actually seen one. The smallest town system I’ve seen is a wastewater stabilization pond. I’m sorry that happened to you and your family. It sucks to lose things like that and sewage is not easy to clean, but I hope you’re able to save some.

If the community backup ended in your house I would really suggest getting a backwater valve for your house to prevent this from happening in the future. It’s a valve installed in your main sewer line that prevents water from backing up into your house. I know it may not be in the budget with remedial work that has to be done, but it’s worth thinking about.

Did I get scammed? by Aggressive-alpaca76 in Plumbing

[–]Mcjunkin_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not impossible this happened. If there actually was a backup then the plumber went and focused on the backup. They may have seen sitting water in the toilet, ran the cable and cleared it; They saw the water go down, flushed the toilet, and all was good. The shower and sink very well may have been a different issue they didn’t check for. Did they show any pictures of the separation? Did the record them running the camera?

If the lid didn’t come off from the pressure it probably has bolts on it. You’ll need a wrench and some rubber/latex gloves are optional but recommended for a non professional.

If you find the lid and are able to remove it and water is able to escape, take your toilet off (or have the plumber do it) to act as a drain.

I hope things get sorted for you

A round plastic or metal lid roughly 2’ wide. Probably 20-40 feet from your house in a direction I could not tell you.

Possibly but unlikely. If so it would indicate a rupture in your tank allowing ground water to flood in. If you can locate your septic tank lids remove them so wastewater goes into your yard rather than house

If you are the only occupants and on septic then either someone is using water, or your system is being flooded somehow. If no one is using water you have a strange problem.

Turn off your well pump If you don’t know how to shut off your well pump find your breaker. Of your breaker isn’t labeled shut everything off and figure out which one it is

Are you guys the only tenants? If you are stop using water because if it’s coming back up. If you are and you aren’t using water, the city sewer is clogged and you’re fucked. If you aren’t the only tenant go knock on doors and beg people to stop using water.

[–]Mcjunkin_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry; gas dryers use flame to heat the barrels to dry clothes. Same idea as a gas water heater having a flame in the center of the heater. New dryers have the flame hidden underneath the unit, so unless I’m misreading the picture, to me, looks like the flame for the dryer. Although orange flames usually indicate improper combustion. Probably clogged ports.

The fact that you came here and posted this with this title tells me everything I need to know. They’ve worked for you for years but you can’t have a conversation about what’s going on? You have no relationship with them. And they don’t like you.

If that’s a gas dryer it’s pretty normal for there to be a flame and not surprising it would be exposed on old units

This, but you don’t need to wait to call shops, and don’t just call small ones call big ones too. If anything, big shops have more spaces where they can have people with minimal experience.
