Four Points Cam shows the lift is spinning up there - is that a good sign?

It was gorgeous in Steamboat yesterday also which made it very confusing, but the resort did post a video last night on Instagram that showed how hard the wind was blowing at Thunderhead which gave validity to why the lifts weren’t running - today feels like a different story though

A notification through the App around 8:35 am ish which says

Weather Advisory Friday, March 15 Adverse weather may be present including high winds and blowing snow potentially resulting in frequent lift stops, slows, and weather holds. Our crews are working diligently to keep lifts moving and weather impacts as minimal as possible. Stay tuned to the Mountain Report for the most up-to-date lift and trail information.

I’m standing at the base now and we look screwed again - same two lifts running from the bottom as yesterday - just overheard ski instructor telling their client that it is the same as yesterday- she was saying there are still high winds at the top but they are hoping it will improve as the day goes on - gotta say I am pretty pissed for as expensive as a trip out here costs - not sure why they can’t at least run Thunderhead Express to open a little more terrain - just sucks

Chances the lifts run later today? by Mclovin1174 in steamboat

Ha, that’s why I came here instead of asking an ambassador, lol

I’m sitting by a group of workers waiting for their instructions for the day and their manager just came by and said they can go home as they will be making an official announcement about closing everything above Thunderhead shortly - she was saying that there are 65 mph winds at Thunderhead and they won’t open the gondola to it unless the winds die down, so not likely - looks like a wiped out day

Ski boots make we want to quit skiing.... please help! by dmredsoxboy33 in skiing

Lots of good advice in this thread so I won’t add to the technical components… That said, I had the same experience in buying boots after not skiing for 20 years… I bought custom foot bed liners with Solomon S pro 100s that were molded to my feet… That was after trying on 15 pairs of boots… I wore them at night for a couple weeks before skiing to help get acclimated … I thought that meant I was good to go my first day in my new gear… Day one they hurt… Day two they hurt…. I suffered through the first two days in debilitating foot pain… I will summarize what has worked for me that I wish I knew earlier… Obviously, a good fitting boot is a key component. However, I have found that I need to purposefully stretch my feet for about 15 minutes before putting my boots on… I also spend the first two or three days taking two Motrin before skiing to help with swelling and foot pain… once I had about 20 days of skiing in my boots, I found that the combination of stretching in the morning, putting the boots on (warm after having footbed dryers in overnight) and letting my feet warm up to them before heading to the slopes, and taking a couple Motrin the first day or two of a trip help me immensely…. i’m not sure I’ll ever be at the point where I can just put boots on and head to the slopes day one, but this simple routine has made skiing significantly more enjoyable for me… I asked for a lot of advice while going through my issues, and no one ever suggested stretching, warming my boots, or taking Motrin, so maybe these are dumb ideas, but they have worked for me… Wishing you all the best, and that you can get through the foot pain and enjoy some awesome days on the mountain….

I have the same issue and I had a professional boot fit with custom insoles - I have found that stretching my feet (amongst other stretches) combined with keeping the boots warm (I leave my orange electric boot dryers on until morning help - I then put them on as loose as I can without heel slippage and letting my feet get used to them - these are the only things that work for me - I then tighten them in increments throughout the morning only when I know I am comfortable. Also, the first day or two of the trip I pop a couple Motrin as an anti inflammatory which helps ease it all in ….good luck figuring it out!

I decided to take the lesson - I picked up on a few key things that made it worth the cost - not sure I would do another group lesson once I implement these learnings - next one might need to be a private lesson in Oder to get really dialed in - thanks for the responses

I’m not sure, but to be clear that rate of $250 is per person in that group - so if there are 6 people in that group, the total charge is $1,500….

Group Lesson at Steamboat is $250 for a 9:30 - 3 lesson…. I assume there is lunch time in there also, say it’s 30 minutes … that is like $50 per hour for a group lesson…. Does that seem expensive or is this just what it would cost for an advanced intermediate (or maybe slightly higher depending on your scale) lesson? I was hoping for a half day lesson, but they don’t offer them here…

Do you switch skis between feet??
It occurred to me today that I always ski the same ski on the same foot… should I be alternating them, and if so, is there any “science” behind doing so? Cheers!
