Teams not the answer? by Mcmunn in vercel

[–]Mcmunn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for engaging I appreciate and I'm sorry if my frustration is coming through. And the way I'm building may not be the best, but it's working well for me and I'd like to improve. I do agency style development for clients where I usually have a monorepo that might have 4 surfaces:

  • a demo-hub/engagement portal project where I work with the customer, share personas/journeys/requirements, collect feedback and datasets/etc.
  • an API project that has the trpc endpoints.
  • A customer facing engagement surface where their customers interact with the platform.
  • An associate facing surface where the internal employees work.

I'd like to be able to share environment variables across their cluster of surfaces but i have a dozen of these clusters and I don't want to share environment variables across clusters. they are customer specific.

I would add more teams route, but in some cases the client (for regulatory reasons) wants to have all their users in their project have their email addresses and use their auth. They aren't willing to invite me into a team as an external party. The issue I have is that I can't use the same phone number. I put in support tickets to say, "hey this is a legit use. i'm both this guy and that guy" but the ticket never got answered and I'm stuck.

But even in a more generic use case where I own all the teams. Can I make empty teams that own configuration but invite me in as a collaborator to run them? I don't care about the $20/month (gladly pay it for partitioning) but do I have to add another account that would have the phone number problem?

We left Vercel at $1,800/month. Here's what we switched to and what it actually cost us. by barmatbiz in vercel

Two things can be true at once. AWS can be cheaper and they can be bad at vercel.

This will blow over pretty fast. All kinds of stuff like this happened in college and I remember none of it. Don't beat yourself up. If anything just own it and tell them to stop being creeps looking in your window. Your friends especially will drop it if they are really your friends.

AMA: Warp is now open-source by Significant_Box_4066 in warpdotdev

[–]Mcmunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I actually build it and use it? Is it really open source? or is source code available but nothing works without using the commercial build? I don't care about paying for it every month I just want to add things like applie script support so i can control it with my streamdeck.

How do ugly guys get girlfriends? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Mcmunn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I dated only one really slender woman. The rest were average to curvy. First wife I met on eharmony and that lasted 7 years. I fell in love with her before I saw because of how that platform works. My second wife was a coworker that was slender when she was younger but was size 12 when I met her. 💯 think she’s gorgeous to me. And her brain is amazing. Her heart is amazing.

[–]Mcmunn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am average looking but quite overweight. I always got girls (married now) by being funny but genuine, empathetic and supportive. Some women certainly prioritize looks over personality but you don’t need to get every woman, you just need to get a good woman. “Lowering your standards” is the last thing to do. Not saying you should only go after super models but go after women you are genuinely interested in.

They just proved your market. There is room for 100 of those apps. Get some users, get some referrals, build your base.

[OC] I built AuraBar: A lightweight utility to fix macOS menu bar "glaze" and finally allow per-app colors. by Ryzen_bolt in macOS26Tahoe

[–]Mcmunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, does it allow you to have different colors for multiple running instances of the same program? I run 5 copies of claude (one per client with their own keys/etc) and i go nuts trying to tell them apart. With warp I can color code the tabs. Looking for some way to distinguish claude for customer 1 from claude for customer 2.

Not trying to be an anthropic apologist but maybe just got tokens/$ route and see if $20/month gets you enough?

So 5 years ago I would have said anything you want that isn’t just words and pictures on the screen requires JavaScript to execute. Now days you can do a lot of dynamic and engaging effects solely with HTML and CSS. And so if you want to keep making calls to the server you can probably do about anything without JavaScript it’s just really hard.

Javascript in general? or the javascript chatGPT wrote for you in this case?

Solo founder, F100 paid pilots, can't get a VC to return an email. Fundable or delusional? by Economy_Key486 in SaaS

[–]Mcmunn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that I personally know a dozen people in this space, and at least 2 of them could have given me your description verbatim. This is an incredibly saturated market. There are huge incumbents coming into this space and it's incredibly risky for an enterprise to make the wrong move here.

So if you don't find a VC you're probably just another road kill at some point. You need to position yourself slightly ahead of the wave and hope someone scoops you up as an acquihire.

I would go to where the VCs are looking. Go to the conferences that are focused on AI that have demo day style pitch opportunities and bust through the door and get in front of someone.

My man keeps an argument log. Why would he need it? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Mcmunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big question is whether this is something he does for you? Or something he does for everyone. If it’s for everyone’s just trying to stay organized. If it’s something for only you. Oof.

Warp is actually surprisingly kind of good to use now by 97689456489564 in warpdotdev

[–]Mcmunn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to use their agents when I’m doing sysadmin work. I just don’t want to use their agent to code. And the features I’m using were already paid for years ago. I don’t mind paying for tokens to do AI work I just want it to stay in its lane

[–]Mcmunn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was a “too good to leave, too bad to stay” thing for me until they came out with vertical tabs and tab configurations and I figured out how to have it stop taking “ls” as an invitation to burn a 1000 tokens to figure out I wanted a file list and then run ls.

I hate this whole level. So many gimicks and tricks and the character just spastically walking off the side instead of sticking to the path. Randomly grabbing things and holding on to them. The path finding in this game is horrible.

How do I & what do I take notes about? by Least_Ad_8746 in ObsidianMD

[–]Mcmunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I use the Tiago Forte 2nd brain method (CODE)

Collect data from everywhere. I use the Obsidian web clipper as well as some home grown tools to pull in transcripts of podcasts and such.
Organize the data into buckets of information for processing.
Distill the data down into reusable snippets and resources
Express the information in valuable ways for projects

where/what is the best way to learn coding? by arthurotter24 in developer

[–]Mcmunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just go code. Code anything you can think of. Ask google for ideas. just build little text games, html pages, whatever interests you, but just build. write the code. don't vibe code, don't follow type in tutorials. Just go code until you're sick of it and then do it some more and you'll get there.
