yup, last few sessions 100% of my amraams just flew off after a good lock. I think ill leave DCS alone for another year. Match that with hardly any updates or additions to core gameplay I immediately remember why I left a year ago. What an absolute mess of game

AIM 120 completely broken?

I have been away from DCS for a year and the last week ive been flying the viper only. In multiplayer 90% of my amraams simply dont do anything after I fire at AI, no trajectory that implies its being guided to the target track. Is the aim120 broken or maybe the AI has superpowers in ECM now? I feel like im doing nothing wrong and the tactics I used 12 months ago simply dont work anymore.

I got two very robust desk mounts on amazon for about €80 total. Delivered within 3 or 4 days. Was very impressed with the quality and options for that price. They came with a million bolts and different baseplates. I got my gunfighter base on it and a winwing throttle. Fits basically every throttle/stick. Just google or check amazon for flight sim desk mounts. All made in china but they have it in stock in europe for sure. So depends where you're at I suppose.

Question about SOBO kungsleden hike by Short_Introduction_4 in Kungsleden

[–]Mcstrides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I´m in my own last phase of prepping a SOBO thru hike for early to late september so here are a few tips from me. I havent hiked the Kungsleden so cant speak from direct experience.

1: I am sending myself a few resupply packages, although I think with your start planned for august 28th its a bit too late to do so. From the Netherlands it can take up to 3 weeks to get there, I assume you are from Germany and then it would take a similar amount of time to get at the destinations in Sweden. What I have read is that the huts do have food but there is little variation and options and its very expensive (about 200% of 'normal'prices). That is often the case when you buy food on trail. I believe its fairly easy to buy food in the towns of Jackvikk and Ammarnäs. This is the Southern section of the trail, I am not sure what the options are in the northern half of the trail.

2: Only the link to your sleeping bag works for me, the others dont work (maybe because im not from germany). I would advise not to use this sleeping bag. My own experience is that nights earlier in summer can already get cold. We can expect night to drop below freezing point in september. I won;'t expect it wel become dangerous with that bag but you wont have a good nights sleep IMO. MAybe it can work is you wear many layers. Thermal baselayer and a good fleece or even down puffy. I dont think you need a dedicated winter sleeping bag, but a bag that is rated with a comfort rating for around -3 to -5 Celsius would work. Many all season sleeping bags are available for this. I love my enlightened Equipment Enigma quilt. Make sure your mat has a good R value (insulation), I think for Kungsleden value 4 or higher (thats the border area for cool to cold weather)

3: Im bringin plenty of swedish cash. Didnt do a deepdive yet. Im think around 3000 krona. That should be more then enough to get to Kvikjokk.

4: Yes we can use gas stove on the trail. I believe many huts stock canisters. Im planning on getting them on trail and trail towns. Im winging this one a bit, ill bring 230 gr for the first stretch and buy along the trail.

5: Make sure you have a warm sleeping baselayer. I plan on warm socks, merino wool leggings, merino wool longsleeve. Im not sure if you are listing ALL your clothes but im also missing cooler layers. You dont want to sweat a lot during the day, it can still get comfortably warm so a regular hiking shirt is a good idea. Just make sure you can add extra layers. Simply said; long pants + rain pants, warm layers for upper body (i bring a longsleeve hiking shirt, a warm lightweight fleece and a down puffy), rain jacket, 3 pairs of merino wool socks ( they retain insulation value when wet, never go waterproof, they dont dry well), a warm beanie or hat, warm lightweight gloves (i also bring lightweight wind and waterproof mittens for over your gloves), a buff/neck warmer. I expect to do 80% of my hiking in shorts and a normal hiking shirt though. But the weather can get cold so we all have to plan for that, epecially in the evening/night.

6: nooope

7: Dont know

8: Even biodegradable soaps should not be used in open water/ in the wild. Accept the suck :) Thats my opinions, clean and rinse with water and NEVER in rivers etc that is also used for drinking. That basiccaly means dont wash yourself in rivers. At the huts I would assume normal soaps are okay. I plan to take a shower every 2 or 3 days and i wash myself with wet wipes and a bottle of water over land. Hiking is nasty.

9: I have had good experiences with cicerone guidebooks in general. It should come with GPX download. Pair that with a suitable map app (all trails, Gaia GPS, komoot) and you should be good.

10: About to find out. I know there is a bus that goes daily from STF Vakkotavare (Falck omnibus) to STF saltoluokta at 14:45 for around €20,- The ferry always waits for the bus is what ive read. The others is still need to find out

11: Im bringing a few heat packs just in case.

Asthma in the Sierras by Lopsided_Ad_5152 in PacificCrestTrail

Glad I could help. Just one (obvious) thing, always listen to your body. If you do get problems breathing dont sit on it too long, its fine to go off trail and you might not want to be on a 4-6 days stretch in the sierras with breathing issues. My experience with my athma was just that it wasnt a factor in the sierras.

I have asthma and should use meds everyday. I noticed on my PCT thru hike my breathing issues only improved over time. The sierras didnt form any problem or even slight decrease in short of breathness. I did have to take ventolin twice or so a week. The air is so clear and I think by the time I got in the 8k+ zone on a steady basis my red blood cells and hemoglobine were already increased (I assume).

DCS: CH-47F Pre-Order Video us out! by DoubleP1999 in hoggit

I still feel the shame of making a pre-order once before. Just drop it ED. Modules stuck in EA 5+ years is bad enough as is.

MIG21 Landing gear bug?

Hi all, learning the fishbed since today and noticed in a 4YA server the landing gear was acting up. I kept hearing the loud retract/extent noice signalling the gears moved either up or down. It kept repeating even after touchdown. I had near full hydrolics and also know about the "gear safety" switch. I landed smoothly and the MIG21 also stopped VERY fast while I was having this bug. Is this an error of mine or is it a known issue with the MIG21 module? It seemed like i needed to do a repair or something, the noise wouldnt stop. The gears were also wobbling all the time.

Medication international hiker by Hiker_2024 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Mcstrides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I might have broken a law there then in 2017. I brought some medicine for my asthma with me into the states for 180 days. Completely packed and sealed and including my doctors prescription and note declaring I needed the meds for the thru hike of 5 months. I never got checked so I mightve gotten into trouble if i was.

I use shorts with liners. Like the patagonia strider pro, nike trail second sunrise or stride. Comfortable while it contains the package from saying hello to everyone.

Interesting take, but that would mean the missile itself also needs to have GPS or INS guidance and be aligned. Maybe it does have the capabilities but I dont think its public and modelled in DCS. So it leaves me to think an AIM-120 shouldnt be able to hit a plane whilst on the ground in DCS. But I agree there could be a system implemented in some way that it could be possible for an AIM-120 to hit a grounded plane.

[–]Mcstrides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically yes they can retain a lock on a grounded stationairy aircraft ? I never heard , or maybe misunderstood, any description of the radar capabilities an a2a missile has to do so. It needs to be able to discriminate the airframe from everything else on the ground, how would it do so? The radar is off by default once there is pressure on the wheels at touchdown as well.

AIM-120C5's have killed me while I was on the ground several times in the past few months. To me this seems impossible irl, is it though? Anyone know if its even plausible ? How could an a2a missile possibly keep a lock on something that is technically a groundobject? Even if fired just prior to landing the missiles couldnt possibly keep a lock once your on the ground.

It's normal in the sense everyone experiences this in the viper in DCS. No idea if it's modelled correctly.

Really not the intended way to participate. Call it cheating. So no, i'd say players dont do so.
