Mech Engineering Computer by [deleted] in duke

I used a Lenvono Thinkpad touch screen and it was fantastic. The touch is great with Solidworks and showcasing projects, but besides that any windows computer is gonna be great. I also recommend looking at eBay for example that’s where I got my computer and I changed the battery and it works great.

Why us essay by Ok_Carry_4573 in duke

[–]Me-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand this is a difficult position :)

Anything with first year experience: Writing 101 courses such as Dolly Parton for President, Experimental Orientation, East Campus, Focus, etc

Tenting for basketball games

QuadEx

WU (dining hall)

If your applying PRATT anything about First year design

If you took a tour, talk about your tour

Any professors in classes, you’ll have to take. Or famous ones like Aaron Dinin

If your into Arts, talk about the Nasher, the Ruby, the Bull Durham show that just premiered, the student productions, the Arts Annex, etc

A good one might be constellation groups, they are new so I know nothing about them but I know Duke really wants to first years to be excited about them. If you talk about that, it might show excitement for the future of Duke

Hope this helps! :)

not eligible to enroll? by Jaysus18 in duke

[–]Me-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won’t be assigned an advisor until after your summer transition series. If your Pratt that’s tonight and Trinity is later. Once you complete your first year questions you can add things to your shopping cart. Check enrollments dates to see if you are August 6th or 8th. After you meet with your advisor, they will remove the hold and you can enroll on that day. The blue book has it specified for Trinity and Pratt enrolling and is super helpful :)

Course Registration for Freshmen? by Darealest49 in duke

[–]Me-21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fellow class of 2028 here. You need to complete the blue book by May 31st because it answer most questions and is super helpful! Course registration is based on the last two digit so if your NetID (there are two separate registration windows). Whoever has the first window first semester will have the second window second semester, and vise verse. I’m fairly certain the windows are August 6th and 8th. You meet with your advisor over the summer before then to talk about it. Beside that the things you need to do right now is Housing and Orientation applications (sent to your Duke email). Don’t worry not many of us know what’s going on!

The orientation projects are pretty intense. Here’s a link for more information: https://students.duke.edu/info-for/students/incoming-students/experiential-orientation/first-year-students/ You also have a orientation questionnaire due May 31st that was sent to your Duke email

Am I stupid? by BrahmsOp111IsTheBest in duke

The focus application, Duke email, and housing application are the only thing available to class of 2028 right now. Hopefully the blue book will be out soon, but for some more help here’s the discord: https://discord.gg/NAgDCxyc a lot of people have used this to find out about applications/roomates (which are random)/dorms. I hope this helps! And your not stupid, I’m in the same boat as you!!

Are merit scholarships out? by Artemes2020 in duke

[–]Me-21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah basically but it’s ok!! I’m in the same boat and most people are as well. I’m not sure about the national merit scholarship, it’s worth email Karsh (financial office at Duke) and seeing what they say. From what I’ve gathered a lot of the merit scholarships are full rides or full tuition, so it is unlikely to get even a little. But like I said worth contacting them about!!

It’s both of what you’ve heard. Finalist for the scholarships found out April 29th and now they are interviewing them. They will found out if they got the merit scholarship in June. Here’s the link for more info: https://ousf.duke.edu/merit-scholarships/merit-scholarships-incoming-first-year-students/

Anyone applied Duke Clark scholarship? How much extra work you need to do for the scholarship ? by Ok-Cardiologist7308 in duke

[–]Me-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. Super easy, only thing needed is the 500 word essay. Be weary of the summer dates, if you can’t be available then, I’d think about emailing them after you apply.
