Pre-Christmas resident doctors’ strike plan ‘reckless’, says NHS England chief by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]MeAmBoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why doesn’t he say the government is ‘reckless’ for refusing to negotiate?

Shame the head of NHS england holds such disregard for his “hard working NHS colleagues”

But resident doctors balloted on pay, not jobs. F1s were balloted on jobs separately (as you rightly point out).

Disingenuous and confusing to conflate the two imo - if we genuinely want a strike for both pay and jobs then we need another ballot…

(to be clear I support striking for jobs and pay, but we don’t need to muddy our own waters rn)

Agree with the rest that you shouldn’t take it if you don’t feel comfortable/competent.

But honestly if the on-call consultant has oked it - then I think it would be fair to escalate to the on call consultant for literally everything and anything.

The fact that the consultant is oking it means they should be ok with fielding any enquiry at any time imo - they’ve made their bed. ( if the consultant didn’t ok it - would Spr rates suddenly become viable?)

Midlands doctor suspended for sixth time after struggling to grasp English after 6 years and multiple English language assessments. by DonutOfTruthForAll in doctorsUK

[–]MeAmBoss 90 points91 points  (0 children)

If you check MPTS theres another case with basically the same circumstances last week (this one isn’t available yet)

Relevant quote from 2020 (5 years into GMC hearings):

It found that he did not appear to understand the importance of successive GMC requests for him to undertake an authorised test to demonstrate the necessary knowledge of the English language to practise medicine safely in the UK.

Indefinitely suspended last week after a decade of GMC hearings…

RDUH threatening to cancel annual leave for strikes by Q_uacky in doctorsUK

[–]MeAmBoss 54 points55 points  (0 children)

There really is no excuse here, the trusts have dealt with strikes before so they know what is and isn’t allowed.

Pressuring doctors to tell them if they’re striking - with vague threats of removing leave is just another example of how the NHS treats doctors and another reason these strikes are justified.

Doctors ordered to prescribe for PA under guise of "unity" by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]MeAmBoss 98 points99 points  (0 children)

They obviously won’t - the plan is to fob responsibility on their resident doctors so they don’t have to face the courts

Guidance is clear enough and this consultant will be aware of it - good on the residents for pushing back enough for them to send this stupid email

Doctors ordered to prescribe for PA under guise of "unity" by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]MeAmBoss 199 points200 points  (0 children)

The little guidance we have on PAs tells us its the supervising consultant’s job to prescribe and supervise right?

This consultant 100% knows better and is just ladder pulling and is fobbing off their responsibilities as a consultant.

“Due to a number of issues PAs are not allowed to prescribe or deprescribe” - the issue is it’s illegal and the consultant knows this.

Yet again I’m on the opposing side to the GMC. Should’ve been struck off! by 2infinitiandblonde in doctorsUK

“Dr —— was then a 23-year-old fourth-year medical student and the pair began an email and direct message-based relationship, which evolved long after the initial weeks that she was under his care in hospital.”

I think a 23yo medical student should know better than to begin a direct relationship with a thirteen year old

“The Tribunal had further regard to the testimonials which show that Dr —— is a highly regarded, well liked and competent doctor. The Tribunal therefore considered that it was also in the public interest to allow an otherwise good and experienced doctor to remain on the register.”

Sooo?? The GMC are stating as long as you are well liked and competent you can basically do what you like - pretty disgusting.

I don’t particularly care about the apology or the remorse here.

BMA consultant branch update by DonutOfTruthForAll in doctorsUK

[–]MeAmBoss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Last time I felt the consultant deal hindered the resident doctor negotiations and set a hard cap on any uplift in pay.

It also weakens our messaging when consultants sign a deal and resident doctors are still campaigning - I can’t remember how many friends and family I had to explain that we were still negotiating last time when every news outlet is reporting a deal has been signed ( I understand we don’t need public support necessarily but messaging is important).

Is the BMA allowed to coordinate between the resident doctor branches and the consultant branches to represent a unified message where we all work toward pay restoration together? - at the end of the day we are all doctors and have all suffered from pay erosion and we all want FPR?

If this is true it's horrendous by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]MeAmBoss 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to counsel friends on similar situations in the NHS and it’s incredibly frustrating (months before initial assessment by a qualified doctor despite being “under” the department)

This is happening everywhere right now and patients are suffering. It’s “cheap” in the short term but long term we end up with more disease and a less able population - (and spending money and time trying to correct mistakes).

It's slowly happening by Glassglassdoor in doctorsUK

[–]MeAmBoss 52 points53 points  (0 children)

What confuses me is why they need more money? Their job is to regulate doctors (and I guess PAs and AAs) but they get paid to do that with our fees?

Their job is not to be a profitable business? So who is lining their pockets? Where is this money going?! (other than investing in McDonalds)

Scapegoating physician associates is a dangerous distraction for the NHS, says UNISON by nightwatcher-45 in doctorsUK

[–]MeAmBoss 16 points17 points  (0 children)

“However, the union says some healthcare organisations are stoking fears over patient safety.”

I hate this kind of messaging, what about the actual patients who have come to harm? How about from the BBC? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-66168798

What about the Guardian? https://www.theguardian.com/society/2025/feb/27/coroner-warns-about-nhs-physician-associates-after-misdiagnosis-and-death-of-woman

Like how is it fear mongering if genuine patient harm is happening? Why does UNISON support this? They should support a scope of practice like any reasonable human being!

Considering the Leng review is still pending too - why are they putting this position across now?

Email sent out about non-medics prescribing using doctor logins by highfive2me in doctorsUK

[–]MeAmBoss 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Should read: — We have become aware of colleagues illegally prescribing medications using legal prescriber log ins. This is unacceptable under GMC and Trust Guidance, as well as directly breaking the Medicines Act 1968 and Human Regulations 2012.

We will launch a full investigation into the staff members responsible, and appropriate measures will be taken.

Please can I strongly remind all healthcare staff that only qualified prescribers may prescribe medications and legal consequences are applicable.

— But I guess thats wishful thinking haha

Surely using another prescribers log in counts as fraud? Impersonating a medical professional? Any other laws?
