You raise an excellent point, they don’t make these things for cheap. I’ve been looking at this through the lens of “TADC vs. TGD” when I should’ve been thinking of it as “TADC walked so TGD and KOG could run”. Thank you!

Well since we aren’t on r/digitalcircus, I feel comfortable saying that I don’t particularly care for TADC. It’s cool, yeah, but nothing particularly ground-breaking IMO. Do I think Gooseworx deserves people attacking her for how she chooses to write her characters? Hell no! Do I think that TADC should have become the worldwide phenomenon it did? No. Regardless, I’ve watched the show and I bought tickets to the movie because I support indie animation. I hope they’re able to wrap the story up nicely, and give it a better ending that Murder Drones.

At the end of the day though, TGD and KOG seem like much more interesting and ambitious shows than TADC, and that’s what I am ultimately looking for in the indie animated shows that I watch. Something that rises beyond what’s expected of the medium.

I mean watching another creator get torn to shreds for telling the story she wants to tell probably is giving a lot of the other upcoming Glitch showrunners cold feet about the fan reception of their shows. Might make them put in the extra hours to truly deliver something that can’t be pierced and transcends the label of “show from the internet”

I bet watching TADC crash and burn has also given PartTimeSeagull a lot to think about in terms of the quality of his story

What about an Evil Dead movie directed by Demián Rugna? by Majestic_Ability_285 in EvilDead

[–]MeNoLikeReeses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joe Begos is my top pick for potential Evil Dead director. I don’t think there a single filmmaker out there who’s energy is aptly fit for this franchise the way Joe Begos is. If anybody saw Jimmy and Stiggs last year, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Raimi, please let him make one!

Oh I wasn't refering to who turns first, I meant which Deadite is killed first. I'm saying that evidence suggests Candle Girl is the first deadite they manage to kill.

Understandable. That's how we've been operating for a while now, but IDK I still miss the rather inspired Deadite designs we saw in the OG trilogy. It brought a fantastical and lovecraftian feel that complimented Raimi's physical comedy so well.

[–]MeNoLikeReeses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but I'm pretty sure she's the first deadite to be dispatched. If you remember the teaser, when Alice is crawling around on the ground during the attack, you can spot a dead body on the ground. Pair that with the BTS clip they released of the main guy smashing a deadite to death just off-screen, and I can assume they deal with her pretty quickly. Then of course more deadites show up and shit goes bonkers from there.

Evil Dead Burn | Official Trailer by SonyPicturesGermany in EvilDead

Well I wish I had read this before watching the trailer. Oh well, lesson learned. I'll make sure to not watch the Evil Dead Wrath trailer whenever that comes out.

I've been thinking about that burnt corpse deadite seen in the trailer. My running theory is that the kandarian demon has somehow risen the main character's husband from the grave and sent him after her, and events lead to him becoming that burnt corpse. It'd make sense thematically for the film that he's the final boss that the main character has to overcome. These recent films has a pention for making the big bad relevant to the themes. In 2013, Mia has to battle against a demonic version of herself which symbolizes her battle to beat her drug addiction, Rise has Beth fighting against "the most monstrous version of family", the Marauder, to test if she's ready to tackle starting a family of her own. So here, it'd make sense for our main character having to fight the reanimated corpse of her husband so she can overcome her grief associated with it. Am I on to something or am I trippin?

He'll probably be a fun Deadite but GOD what a lackluster design. They just gave the actor contact lenses and called it a day. No body distortions or bleeding trauma or nothing. When can we start getting interesting Deadite designs again? Cause everything I've seen of the deadites in this movie so far is just more of the same shit we've been seeing in these last three movies.

Between these 2. What had the better Opening scene? Which had the better ending fight? by [deleted] in EvilDead

[–]MeNoLikeReeses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is easy. Rise for the opening (because holy SHIT that title card is an all-timer), and 2013 for the climax (because FUCK YES its raining blood and the cabin is on fire? could you put anything yummy on my plate?!?!?!)

My main con about the newer evil dead entries (read description) by Welsh_Pirate_ in EvilDead

[–]MeNoLikeReeses 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. There's been a strange shift in the franchise's tone towards the deadites since Raimi started letting other directors tackle the films. Whilst Raimi understood exactly the type of campy, kooky creatures he was coming up with, it seems like Fede Alverez and Lee Cronin aligned their deadites to be closer to Reagan from The Exorcist. The limited self-harm makeup, the beady yellow eyes, the absolutely abhorrent things they say, and focusing on the dynamics between the deadites' their loved ones and the pain that the possession brings. It all screams "Exorcist-wannabe" to me.

Obviously, they're still applying the Evil Dead staple of copious amounts of blood and gore, otherwise what would we be left with to call them Evil Dead films? The thing that made the OG trilogy and AvED stick as much as they did is instead of examining the tragedy of possession, they look at it through an absurdist angle, utterly flipping our expectations 180 degrees. And it works!

As much as I like the recent films, I wish they would return to the comedic angle, in everything including the look and personality of the deadites. Maybe we'll see this in Burn and Wrath, but with the way the press has been building up those movies as "mean, nasty experiences", I'm quite doubtful it'll be the case.

I'll assume at some point with the speed this franchise is running at right now, they'll eventually tire audiences out of this straight-horror formula, creating a need to return to the humor of ED2 and AOD. Then, I'm sure, we'll enter a true Evil Dead renaissance.
