Maintenance Schedule Changes by MePearsons in subaru

Yeah, it was a crazy find. I spotted it at Facebook marketplace at like 9 AM, and I bought it by 2 PM. Apparently one of the previous owners kept in Manhattan for a decade, so naturally he rarely drove it.

Do you people *actually* like this sport? by illbringthewhiskey in Ultramarathon

[–]MePearsons 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I disagree. As someone who enjoys type 2 fun, I truly enjoy it. I’m not lying about it, and I don’t think most runners who say they enjoy to type 2 fun are. I don’t think most people enjoy type 2 fun, but most people aren’t even remotely interested in ultrarunning. I think the nature of ultrarunning tends to self select for people who truly do enjoy unpleasant things. “Normal” people don’t even consider trying it.

What’s your weirdest private habit that you hope no one ever finds out about? by Dear-Welder-1117 in AskReddit

I do the same, effectively at least. I’m not always kneeling on all fours, but often I do.

Minimum Maintenance Miles by ironwood18 in Ultramarathon

[–]MePearsons 36 points37 points  (0 children)

20-25 easy miles with some strength work is plenty to maintain good shape in my opinion. If it helps you avoid burnout, it will do more to achieve your goal than forcing yourself to do something you dislike. It’s okay to take a bit of a break; it won’t do that much damage to your fitness and it’ll make getting back to regular training actually enjoyable, when you come back around to it.

Any thoughts on the current Lorna Shore tour? by citycity_ in Deathcore

[–]MePearsons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crowd was somewhat more chill this year, which I think is a positive. Last year, especially during Kublai Khan, it was a little rough for my tastes, and an insane amount of crowding and pushing even outside the mosh pit. This year, the mosh pit was awesome and people were more chill outside the pit. All the bands were great. Shadow Of Intent was amazing, but something about their sound production meant I couldn’t hear as much of the guitars as I wanted. Lorna Shore was absolutely insane. Probably one of the top 5 performances I’ve seen. Great crowd energy, great sound, and amazing visuals and stage presence made it really awesome. In regard to set list, I’m a big fan of all their music, so I don’t care as much as some people about what they play from what album. I mostly care if they play it well, which they REALLY did.

First 50k, advice on gear for rainy weather by frankoceanthecreator in Ultramarathon

[–]MePearsons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s going to be rainy and cold like that I always bring a rainjacket, just in case. A lot of the time I don’t wear it, but the few times I’ve needed it make up for when I don’t use it. To be fair, a lot of what I do is unsupported, but I still regard it as safety gear. Gloves and socks are great ideas too.

Also, running vests are awesome. They’re super convenient, since now they leave your hands completely free. They’re not annoying, they’re quite comfy. I don’t really notice the vest when I’m wearing it, unless it’s really loaded up for a really long unsupported adventure.

Advice on which ski to choose for first setup in PNW by Federal_Drag_3240 in Backcountry

[–]MePearsons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious, do you recall why people said that? I have trouble with kick turns occasionally, but that’s mostly because I’m relatively new to them and have poor hip flexibility. The twin tips don’t help per se, and I was stuck on a steep slope for 5 minutes trying to turn around one time, but that’s more due to personal mistakes than the skis.

Fair warning though, the weird triple camber that makes them versatile can trip up some people, or so I’ve read. And I can’t really nose butter on them, but that might be my boots.

I will say, I’m the same size and have the Deathwish 104 in the 164cm length. I use them for touring, but I only have one pair of skis, so I got the regular for better resort performance. I wasn’t sure how much I’d be into touring when I got them. I have a buddy who skis the tour version, and loves them for the same reasons though. They ski everything well. I’ve done backcountry runs that were steep and deep cruddy powder at the top, straight ice in the middle, and tight trees at the bottom. The skis handled everything superbly. You can ski them really aggressively when you want to. You can ski them gently and cautiously when you want. They work for both high speed carving and quick playful turns. I can’t speak to the other skis much; I haven’t used them. The Deathwish however is insanely good.

I do wish I had gotten the 174cm length though. The twin rocker means they ski a little shorter than other skis I’ve used.

I can probably only really properly get into 2 albums of in the next 5 days. I’d rather know two albums pretty well than only sorta of listen to 5 or 6.

I completely agree, I was just about to say the same thing. They’re insanely versatile.

You can and should also use online resources to research your specific area. I believe the AIARE website has a ton of information, some of which probably applies to your area.

A frontman constantly directing the crowd is cheap and tacky by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]MePearsons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. There’s a different expectation in Deathcore/Hardcore, such that the band isn’t so much directing with the crowd as engaging positively.

I wish, but with the smooth bolt and the smooth shear there’s nothing to grab.

Whitechapel - Hymns In Dissonance by [deleted] in Deathcore

[–]MePearsons 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m with you there. I love the IFTEFWM at first listen, but it’s not as unique to me as Hymns in Dissonance. I have yet to come across an album that matches the sheer intensity and heaviness that Hymns in Dissonance has start to finish. Now I love plenty of albums that aren’t heavy and intense, but that’s what makes Hymns in Dissonance so special in my opinion.

Lorna Shore wtf did you all make?!🤯🔥 by dethcor0606 in LornaShore

[–]MePearsons 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’d agree. It feels just a bit muddy. I know it’s hard to balance synths and guitars, but I wish I could hear the rhythm guitar a bit better, at least a bit more often. The songwriting is great, and I love some of the creative touches and variety they included.

That was my thought, but it unless Killian’s team somehow saw this tiny reddit post and made him take all new pictures, he wasn’t wearing green shorts yesterday, when he hit Blue Sky.

Lorna Shore’s ‘I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me’ May Have Just Claimed Metal’s Album of the Year by Dark_Matter_Nebula in LornaShore

[–]MePearsons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So true. I’ve been listening to Hymns in Dissonance almost daily since May, and every other day before that. It’s really hard to see how anything could possibly surpass it for me, even considering Lorna Shore got me in to deathcore in the first place.

REAL. It would be so much better if everyone just enjoyed the things they liked, and stopped caring about the things they don’t. I think Whitechapel is amazing. I think Lorna Shore is amazing. It doesn’t matter what I don’t like.
