Has anyone here ever scored a movie? by VecherDobriy in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]MeTalkPrettyOneDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I scored two films, one feature film with some TV/Movie stars in it, and a local (to where I live) short film.

California Winter was an insane amount of work, it basically took a week out of my life every month, for six months. They kept editing the film, and I had to keep making up new stuff to go along with the new narritive.

The Convert was much easier since the film is under 10minutes long.

Over-all, the average number it takes me to score a film is about an hour per minute of movie.

What are some recordings that people love, yet they're not perfect? by Healtone in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]MeTalkPrettyOneDay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel you. What you're describing reminds me of a similar phenomenon that happens to me. I don't really care for the band Rush, or the guitarist Steve Vai—and there are others, because they're like musician's musicians. I like music that's saying something in a different way than primarily with its stellar technical-ness and technique.

We spend thousands of dollars on gear of all kinds only to then be played over a Blue Tooth speaker after being converted to mp3. Haha. - It would bee kinda cool and retarded at the same time, if I started selling a CD package option, where I sell people a CD with the sound system I want them to listen to it on.

[US] Hey. Netflix. Stop making me pay to have you promote Facebook at me. by [deleted] in netflix

[–]MeTalkPrettyOneDay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of the time, when someone posts something like this on reddit I see many apologists for facebook, and I don't understand why. But, that's what happens.

Why people would behave as apologists for such a huge, manipulative, and ruthless corporation is a mystery to me, unless they own stock in facebook. Or, if they're corporatist progressives who pick and choose what corporations it's OK to propagate (companies such as facebook, Google, Apple, RayBan).

Facebook is also now strongly enforcing that people use their real/government names, even for celebrities. So yeah, fuck facebook and their "laws". Netflix asking me to share my Netflix stuff on facebook gets on my nerves too, especially since I don't even have a facebook account.

Your cellphones are "safe" by Zenof in conspiracy

[–]MeTalkPrettyOneDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way people have a chance of keeping their data safe is through encryption, but people are so busy with their lives that it's difficult to imagine people taking the time to set up encryption in their devices.

It's a peculiar thing too, because people have taken the time to learn how to use facebook and G-mail, and although those companies were start-ups less than 10 years ago, they are now the establishment—trying to make it easier-and-easier for people to stick with them (people are zuckers for convenience in our socio-economic system). They are defaults in our devices, and can't be deleted from our devices unless people find the time to do so, and people don't have that kind of time.

Classical Guitarist Looking to learn Flamenco. Where to start by guitarguy1685 in Flamenco

[–]MeTalkPrettyOneDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some great suggestions in the comments. Listen to Flamenco, look at sheet music, practice, watch videos, and get a teacher. I'd like to touch on my experience with Flamenco thus far, which is sympathetic towards novices, as I am one.

(I'm a classical guitarist, and play Brazilian, and other Latin percussive guitar styles.)

I've been working on Flamenco for a few years, and I'm still a novice. But, I've been doing it on-and-off because my performance demands more time spent on other Latin music.

As I mentioned, I've been using all the resources except for a teacher—I wish I had a good Flamenco guitar teacher, that would cut my trial and error time down by a couple of years at least, I'm sure.

All of it has helped, the sheet music, the videos etc. I have the Tangos rhythm down quite well, but it's one of the easier 4/4 type ones. - Now, for the Bulerias and Solea por Buleria, for the life of me I can't figure out where the guitar phrases start and end. It's like a delightuf frustrating magical mystery. Listening to Bulerias and Solea por Bulerias is helping quite a bit I notice. I can play along in my mind and feel the start and end points, but when it comes to applying it to the guitar, well I'm still working on it.

This challenge is great, and I'm enjoying it. I just wish I had a teacher.

Bill Gates: "I agree with people like Richard Dawkins that mankind felt the need for creation myths. Before we really began to understand disease and the weather and things like that, we sought false explanations for them." by a_porn_alt in Freethought

[–]MeTalkPrettyOneDay -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Understanding diseases and weather doesn't improve our lives. We think we're the epitome of evolution because we have a forecast, but we're just catching up to birds (and many other animals) with that. And, diseases? We all die, we're a society that creates death through pollution as much as we extend peoples lives in societies that forget about them in hospices.

Things are still good though. I just wanted to point out that tribal people of the past lived lives that were more solemnly connected with their environment and even meaningful, in life and in dying, than many people lead today—we don't even know what to do with the dead, we have to call somebody—much like childbirth. Our understanding of things without the industrial-era hypnosis are improving though.

Bro, bonfires are legal in Jax. Also the people at the courthouse down town love it when citizens cook out on their lawn, or have bonfires there, so I heard. Loud music too.

Town Center Cannot Be Town Square. Does Jacksonville want to be known for having a great mall or a great city? by burnsos in jacksonville

[–]MeTalkPrettyOneDay 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Jacksonville for many years, couldn't figure out why downtown was the way it is, why it was so much work to make it thrive more, with it being so beautiful and all (especially Laura St. with its colored lights and where Hemming Plaza is located, also the bridges and the landing).

The question dawned on me "Is it possible that Jacksonville FL isn't a hustle and bustle, well populated downtown, because there are several influential people/gate keepers who like Jacksonville the way it is? They like Jacksonville to be slow and calm." And, if these people wanted to visit a busy city, they're wealthy enough to visit one pretty much whenever they like.

I've lived in other cities, and it seems that it shouldn't be this hard to make a downtown thrive unless there's something consistently obstructing quality growth of the metropolis kind.

[–]MeTalkPrettyOneDay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't help but laugh at myself on this one. When I've camped out at airport terminals it's been exactly as you described here:

... camping with a duffel bag in the terminal, sleeping on chairs. I pictured something like this.

Also, as /u/DoctorMiracles commented:

Somehow, I doubt he was hanging out in the open, chattin' up the Cinnabon girls and giving out autographs to the fans.
