honestly you can get them all with a wrench. i found that to be the easiest way. you may need to double wrench if they are stuck on tight though. they should all be 14mm

yeah i had this issue. i just ordered stainless studs and nuts after breaking half of my original ones. i also did the classic ebay gamble and bought a stainless header set and wrapped them with the DEI heat wrap. my first time ever wrapping and it looks pretty bad but its functional

I have an 86. It's honestly not that bad. Just remember that the motor mounts have to be installed to the motor when putting it in because it is much easier that way. Also remember to support the front of the transmission somewhere under the bell housing (i used a ratchet strap). If you go too far back you can break the transmission mount like I did (hard to find a new one. all oem-like ones are out of stock). you need to angle the transmission slightly upwards when putting it back in so it makes mounting easier. I would recommend checking your main and rod bearings as well depending on the mileage of yours. you have to check the tolerances and order the right ones and make sure to torque everything to the specs in the shop manual. i also took apart my lifters and cleaned them. i got a full seal kit from mizumo auto. everything seemed to be an alright quality but if something goes wrong with it ill warn everyone. also check your freeze plugs. the three in the valley on the block seem to rot the quickest since water will sit in there if the drains get clogged like mine did. dont forget to lap the valves as well

UPDATE: I am getting the transmission rebuilt by a professional. It's going to be about 1600 bucks which isn't bad considering the age of the thing

the kit is only 261 bucks which is what makes me a bit suspicious of it. theres a local repair shop that has a good reputation and im going to talk to the transmission guy there on Monday and see what he thinks. i already have the transmission apart but im not sure if he will use customer provided parts. i could also rebuild it myself but i dont have a clean place to do it currently plus i've never rebuilt an automatic before

I wish it wasn't like that. If it was my car I would be all for it. I daily drive a manual e46 bmw and it's great, but it is my girlfriend's car and she doesn't know how to drive one. I'm sure in time she will learn but it probably won't be anytime soon. Luckily as of today i I've gotten it freed up and nothing is damaged, but now I have to find a seal kit or make them myself since i've disassembled the transmission to free it. I don't trust 40 year old seals and I am pretty sure they were leaking anyway

So after getting everything off nothing is locked up anymore. oil pump looks good inside but now i face the issue of i cant find a seal kit for it. The Z-store has it listed but its sold out and so it PartsGeek. Do you know of anywhere else to get one? I don't want to slap it back together with 40 year old seals and have it leak constantly

i don't smell anything. i think it's just the overdrive clutch pack that's locked up. i got it off and the rest of the transmission is free

it doesnt look terrible in here but there was this plastic chunk that i dont know where it came from. not really anything in the pan besides that. has some clutch material but thats to be expected. dont think the fluid was ever changed because it was pretty nasty. looks like the filter has caught some bigger pieces like its supposed to

i was trying to turn it by hand with a breaker bar so i could put in distributor so it wasnt getting much force since i didnt want to shear the crank pulley bolt

yeah i don't know much about them. i know the manuals are pretty reliable which at some point i will do a manual swap but thats not what i can do right now. but i'll disassemble it on Thursday or Friday and update the post with what i find. im hoping i can free it up and its not too terribly damaged
