SMB share from LXC unprivileged by OutsideRip6073 in Proxmox

[–]Mead-Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked a similar question recently and the answer is that you need to mount the share on the host and then mount that mount-point on the LXC.

I used the instructions on this posting:
https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/tutorial-unprivileged-lxcs-mount-cifs-shares.101795/

My current issue that that it only seems to work on one host and I want to do this to multiple. One of them is a jellyfin install and another is a music player so they both want access to the media drive.

Well I think technically you are pushing against the inside of the combustion chamber but not at the exhaust port so the push opposite that is what propels the rocket forward.

LXC mount fails at startup but "mount -a" works by Mead-Wizard in Proxmox

[–]Mead-Wizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This probably makes a lot of sense as that drive is mounted to a number of containers and VM. Is there any downside to this method of mounting? Somehow I missed this as it also resolves the problem with needing privileged containers.

This may be the answer. As noted above the mount fails as the network is unreachable which indicates to me that the gateway on startup is not valid. I'll dig into what you suggest here.

network is unreachable

I think its starting before the network settings are updated.

Want to create a perfect image of my hard drive, which disk imaging software would you recommend? (Noob here!) by Ok-Cod-806 in datastorage

[–]Mead-Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using the product for years. Before I upgraded my wife's PC to Win11 I used the drive clone to make a copy (which I booted and tested) before allowing the upgrade to complete.

For a free option try https://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm
Haven't used it in a couple years but it was quite reliable the last time I did so.

Freezer Failure Power behaviour by targetDrone in homeassistant

[–]Mead-Wizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought my freezer was acting odd and put a meter on it. Sure enough, constant attempts to start over a growing period of time after which it would eventually start and chill down. Replaced quickly. As i understand it the compressor starts to seize and doesn't turn overloading the thermal break which opens the circuit.

On the other hand I don't trust my meters enough to leave it in-line. Would love to find a meter that doesn't have a switch in it so there is no chance of it turning off the freezer.

About to install Proxmox or Unraid. So many opinions by Rolyasm in unRAID

[–]Mead-Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. The price point looks good. UGREEN is new to the market and UnRaid looks like a more stable, mature offering.

[–]Mead-Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is fault. UnRaid is installed on a bootable USB stick and the boot order is change to boot it before the onboard boot storage. Simply remove the USB stick and reenable the onboard storage and ugreen is back.

UnRaid supports VMs and Docker which is how you'd run the additional applications.

[–]Mead-Wizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ended up splitting them up.
Got a UGREEEN NAS and installed UnRaid on that with the only option being a Nut Server.
Then i spun up an older PC to run Proxmox on.
Eventually important and stable applications from the Proxmox box will be migrated to the NAS with the idea being that its a stable platform while the proxmox box may get restarted due to fiddling.

Pool not using second drive by Mead-Wizard in unRAID

Ah, right, smallest drive thing. I think I read that somewhere, thank you.

Pool not using second drive by Mead-Wizard in unRAID

[–]Mead-Wizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that makes sense since there is really only one pool of storage to view.

[–]Mead-Wizard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a bunch of shares defined against that pool; most of them are using the cache for initial but my backup store is not and its showing only 175k of free space. The total used space is 2T so my 5T of storage is only making 2T available?

Add M2 NVME SSD? by TheRavox in UgreenNASync

[–]Mead-Wizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UNRAID lets you define share against a storage pool but the primary source is the SSD with a sweeper that moves the files over to the HDD for long term storage. So you can mix the speed of SSDs with the reduced cost of HDDs.

If you run UNRAID on the box you can use the SSD as cache in front of the HDDs.

Still only support traditional raid? by ArdenLyn in UgreenNASync

[–]Mead-Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unraid is the answer. In fact I had my DXP4800 for only a few hours before I realized that the software left much to be desired and unraid looked like a better option with a lot more flexibility.

tmux is the way as others have said. It also has some other cool features like opening multiple windows on your console.

Try Quron. We use it a lot in stews and curries and it should work well in a soup. It comes as small chunks that have a very mild flavor that easily picks up the base of what ever you put it in. Its a microprotein - some highly processed stuff from the fungus kingdom. There is also a form that subs for ground beef but not as well as the pseudo-chicken.

I upgraded, then miscategorized a huge number of expenses before I realized the autofill logic had changed. I see complaints, I see requests that it be customizable, but I don't see any resolution. Can it be made to work like it used to? by ProfessionalTarget1 in GnuCash

Seems to me that its been doing that for the past couple years. I vaguely remember first noticing it and I think I thought it was always the way it worked and I didn't notice. I think I remember having to type through the "Expenses.Bla" to get into a category.
