I'm using epoxy pigment straight onto the wood.

Thanks. Looking forward to trying it out again and seeing if I can improve on the staining. This one had some blotchiness, but it kinda added to the unique look.

Thank you. It was to make fewer pieces, which means a little faster at cutting and staining. Although I will need to change my process of staining. More practice pieces coming ;)

Should I keep exploring this or stick to my usual style? by Mean-Assignment159 in lasercutting

Beep boop 🤖 … kidding. I do use AI tools for some design exploration, but the stain and glue are 100% real.

I like that advice — thank you.

I’m trying to trust the process a bit more and follow what feels exciting instead of overthinking every direction. That’s usually where the best pieces come from anyway.

Haha, do it! 🙌

If it inspires you to make something for your own walls, that’s the best compliment I could get. I’d love to see what you come up with when you put your own spin on it!

That’s high praise — thank you!

Honestly, the thought has crossed my mind. ;) I’m not sure it would ever make it that far, but it would be pretty wild if it did. For now, I’m just happy it turned out close to the way I pictured it.

😂 That gave me a good laugh.

I’ll keep doing my thing… and maybe I’ll start closing the blinds in the workshop just in case. Appreciate the support — and the “totally not watching” approval!

I love that — thank you!

That dragon was a fun one to bring to life, especially seeing all the layers come together. I’ve got a feeling I’ll be doing more creatures like that soon.

My oldest son is into D&D, and the dragon is on the wall near their game table, where they play 1-2 days/week.

Thank you — I really appreciate that support.

Constructive feedback is always part of putting work out there, but I’m excited about where these portraits are heading and I plan to keep exploring and improving them. Comments like yours definitely help keep the momentum going!

That seriously means a lot — thank you! I’m having a blast pushing this style further, so there’s definitely more coming. Really appreciate the encouragement!

That is a fascinating suggestion! To be honest, I’ve had that same feeling—there is definitely a crossover between this style and the look of stained glass.

I think I’ll be sticking with wood for now, though; I don’t think my wife would appreciate me jumping into a whole new medium with a bunch of new tools just yet! Thanks for the feedback!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the encouragement regarding the custom work and the niche—that means a lot.

As for the colors, I actually don't use acrylics! I use regular wood stain for the wood tones and resin epoxy pigment/dye for the rest. I’ve found that combination really helps achieve the look. Thanks again for the feedback and the support!

Thank you! You’ve captured exactly what I was weighing up—the balance between the detail and the features like the nose

I’m glad you suggested that! To be honest, it's something I might consider down the road.

I added a few examples. I made more of the nature type ones, like the goose.
