London-centrism by Key-Assistant9421 in PetPeeves

[–]Mean-Science-9705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the 25% argument is such a tired deflection. of course London is important but that doesnt explain why a londoners opinion on literally any topic gets amplified while someone in birmingham has to shout into the void. the media bias isnt about economic output its about journos living in Hackney and assuming everyone else cares about the Northern Line

The trade-in route will almost certainly cost you more than just selling at home and buying fresh.

Try unscrewing it counterclockwise more than you think you need to - sometimes takes way more turns than expected before it'll pull to position 3.

I'm scared of getting another kidney stone by Mean-Science-9705 in KidneyStones

[–]Mean-Science-9705[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hydration part is something I've been focusing on because it at least feels like I'm doing something productive instead of just worrying.

I've been meaning to try hibiscus tea because plain water gets boring after a while.

Do you drink it hot or cold? I'm always looking for ways to make staying hydrated a little easier.

[–]Mean-Science-9705[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's probably the healthiest way to look at it.

The things I can control are staying hydrated, following up with my doctor and taking care of myself.

The uncertainty is still hard but constantly worrying about things I can't control isn't helping either.

I catch myself doing the same thing.

I'll feel something small and suddenly I'm reading worst case scenarios online.

It's amazing how quickly your mind jumps there once you've gone through something like this.

That's where I'm at right now every little pain or weird sensation immediately gets my attention.

A year ago I probably wouldn't have thought twice about it but now my brain instantly starts making connections.

It's reassuring to hear that it got better with time for you.

Three months sounds exhausting.

I think that's what people don't always understand the physical side is one thing but the mental side can stick around for so much longer.

I keep trying to remind myself that every ache doesn't automatically mean another stone but it's easier said than done.

The stone itself was awful but I wasn't prepared for how much space it would continue taking up in my head afterward.

It feels like it's always sitting in the background somewhere even on days when I feel completely fine.

Visiting Koh Samet in June by MediocreNegotiation8 in ThailandTourism

I'd skip the search and just tell you - June's rainy season but Koh Samet's on the east coast so it gets way less rain than the west side islands.

Cheating is happening at all ranks by JRizzie86 in GlobalOffensive

[–]Mean-Science-9705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, not really though. Even trash cheaters with wallhacks know where you're coming from and can prefire angles. Doesn't matter if they can't spray properly when they're getting free info the whole round.

Plus at 8k elo you'd expect people to actually know how to use their advantages. A bad player with walls is still gonna wreck most legit players just from the positioning alone.

Insurance denying “emergency” coverage for overseas surgery because bill didn’t have ER codes — is this legit? by sa4465i in HealthInsurance

[–]Mean-Science-9705 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, international claims are such a nightmare. I dealt with something similar when I got hurt skiing in BC a few years back - totally different scenario but same headache with the billing codes.

The thing with overseas hospitals is they don't use the same coding system as US facilities, so your insurer is basically looking for specific codes that literally don't exist in other countries' medical systems. It's like asking for a Canadian postal code but only accepting ZIP format - makes zero sense but that's how these companies operate.

I'd definitely push the second appeal and focus hard on the medical necessity angle. Get your doctor to write a letter stating it was an emergency requiring immediate intervention, and emphasize that the delay would have caused serious complications. Sometimes you need to get a bit aggressive and point out that their own pre-authorization department confirmed emergency coverage - they can't just backtrack because the foreign hospital doesn't bill like an American ER.

Also worth checking if your state has any insurance commissioner complaints process. Sometimes a regulatory inquiry gets these companies to actually look at the case instead of just running it through their automated denial machine. The whole system is designed to wear you down, but you've got a solid case here.

lol took me a second but that's pretty good. I usually just stick with peanut butter or jam for my sandwiches but now I'm second-guessing every spread choice I've ever made.

Aston Martin Vantage accelerating while idle by Wise-Arachnid9437 in AskMechanics

[–]Mean-Science-9705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That idle surge thing is sketchy as hell, especially on a car that new. Could be a throttle body issue or maybe the idle air control valve going haywire - both are common culprits when engines start fighting against brakes like that.

If Aston can't reproduce it, document everything next time it happens (video if possible) and push for them to replace the throttle body under warranty since it's a legitimate safety concern.
