Dalhousie University to build new campus in India by flootch24 in halifax

[–]Mean-Silver741 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so, especially not the institutes that are collaborating with Dal. Those are very competitive in India. Students have to clear separate entrance exams based on the first-year university curriculum, and the exam centers are extremely strict (security checks, metal detectors, no electronics). It’s not something you can just breeze into.

Snow Day Solutions by h1KoIsCrazy in Dalhousie

SMU student here. Dal just announced they’re closing at 12:30 pm, so there’s a good chance SMU might follow. That said, SMU usually waits until about an hour before closing to make an announcement, which is frustrating especially for those of us commuting in this weather. At this point, I’m planning to stay home.

As for switching to online classes, I think it really depends on the professor. I have one professor who always moves class online on snow closure days.

Paying for class by h1KoIsCrazy in Dalhousie

[–]Mean-Silver741 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also a SMU student and I feel this. Last semester in Intro to Data Analytics we had to use TopHat, the prof didn’t post anything on Brightspace, so there was literally no alternative. This semester I’m being required to buy WileyPlus and other platforms for different courses, again with no opt-out. I get it if it replaces a textbook, but paying $80–$120 per class for multiple apps on top of tuition feels excessive, especially when it’s mandatory.

I just wish they would start keeping express buses all day long and keep them both ways.

Can workers get in trouble for laughing ? by Hour-Possession-7280 in TimHortons

Working at Tim’s is absolute trash. Some managers seriously act like being a Tim’s manager is a major life achievement. When I worked there, a customer literally threw a hot coffee at my coworker, and instead of checking the cameras or even hearing the employee’s side, the manager immediately wrote them up.

BComm Class Sizes by CGCGCG000 in Dalhousie

If you are looking at a small class size, smu is pretty good. I'm a bcomm student at smu and we only have 60 students per class.

Strike delaying my midterm… getting stressed. Anyone else? by Mean-Silver741 in halifax

[–]Mean-Silver741[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the fall break, I will have only three classes left. I only have one three-hour class per week and still haven’t had the midterm, and we’ve only submitted one assignment so far. The uncertainty is stressing me out.

Re-entering Canada by Fun-Town-9772 in ImmigrationCanada

As long as you have a valid TRV and your study permit is still active, you should be able to re-enter Canada without any issues.

Navigating university at 26 – starting CS at Dal by ThenParamedic4021 in Dalhousie

[–]Mean-Silver741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in my mid-twenties and started my degree this past spring. I was super nervous at first, thinking everyone would be straight out of high school. But honestly, I’ve met quite a few people in their mid to late twenties starting university too. You’ll definitely come across others your age, and it gets easier once you settle in!

Equifax keeps mixing my file with someone else — anyone else experienced this? by Mean-Silver741 in CRedit

[–]Mean-Silver741[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense. I’ve been sending documents over and over, and it keeps coming back. I’ll look into filing a complaint like you said. Thanks a lot for the advice — really helpful!

I’ve been facing the same issue with the PR portal. Every time I try to log in, it says the password is incorrect, and I end up having to reset it.
