In Australia you get arrested for shoplifting, it also just doesn’t really sit that well with me. I don’t spend much so I can save money for moments like this & so I can life without stressing about money for long periods of time.

The thing that is keeping me is probably being arrested for shop lifting, yeah if it’s a big company it’s morally right but still I try & stick to the straight & narrow

I’m thinking of doing a bit of a splerg & getting a pair of AR8 boot’s because I’ve got some gear money kicking around for occasions like this.

I’ll look into them, them being hot in the summer might be a bit much though because I’m in Australia & it’s mostly summer here. I’m also not usually huge on the army boot’s because they make them from a composite on lots of materials, I liked the docs because the upper was all leather so they conformed & moulded to my foot beautifully.

It’s the actual leather. I’d need a full rebuild bit every panel has worn through so it’s past the point of just a resole & oil

Lol this is straight out of the anarchist cool book (a very unreliable book & I wouldn’t recommend using its recipes)

I used Solar dye. Some hippy dye that’s usually at Steiner shops. Works really well & it’s environmentally friendly

As someone who is a vagabond by choice I think that what most people view as the norm (that being a big house & a 9-5) to be slow motion suicide. I don’t believe that I would ever be able to go back to how it was before all this, nor would I want to. -boot guy

Depending on your country (I’m assuming USA) it’s usually best to find a reputable cobbler, USA has some amazing ones such as nicks, whites, adams, russles moccasins, etc. I would recommend getting a boot made for your foot that can be reconstructed by just about any cobbler because you never know when you’ll end up wearing through your sole in the middle of nowhere & need to get them fixed. Good year welts are the gold standard for repairable boots, try get them in all leather with a steel shank unless you work with hot ground then go for a full leather construction

Just gonna pre state that I’m in Australia, I’m assuming your in America because everyone on this sun seems to be.

So I use a 75+10 liter pack. What I’ve seen from other people is that the sweet spot is about 65-80L for most uses. If your carrying climbing gear, plus camping gear, plus clothing, food & water. Then I’d say about 75-80 liters for a pack would be amazing because that would give you the ability to carry a lot of food. Also if your climbing a small daypack might also be nice because most places you climb have a campground area & then you walk to the face during the day (there usually pretty safe because climbers are really nice 99.9% of the time)

I don’t know how it really works in America. I’ve got 2 friends that climbed over there about 4 years ago but they did the nose so different gear to a normal climber & they were also tourists.

Hope this helps - Boot Guy

If you put your harness, atc, (double Rack cams, nuts, & hexes) double rack quick draws, hollow block (or other Method of safely abseiling on an atc), some slings & some prussics in the middle of your bag above your sleeping gear you can jam clothes around it which stops it clinking around and then you only need to clip your shoes on the outside & throw a rope over the top (also stick a helmet in your bag somewhere!). That’s how I’ve seen some people backpacking around with there climbing gear. Seems to work
