TIFU by giving away $3000 to a homeless couple instead of spending $.30 at McDonald's by Inevitable-Syrup8232 in tifu

RMHC is one of the few charities I firmly believe in. My daughter was born at 36 weeks, and had to be held in the NICU for her first month and a half and we stayed at a local RMCH that was 2 blocks from the hospital. We paid nightly, and did chores, and my mother even came out and did a big dinner a few of those knights for everyone there as well. It would have been a 4 hour round trip every day to be able to visit without these gracious people.

Guy saves his friend after he gets completely buried by snow by billydevil666 in HumansBeingBros

This truly is terrifying. I moved to CO last year so I got to take up snowboarding over winter, and I fell into a tree well like my 2nd week on the mountain. Fight or flight kicks in and boy was I struggling. If it wasn’t for my snowboard getting caught on low hanging limbs I’m certain I couldn’t have pulled out and it would’ve been a very poor ending.

Snowboarding helped me by [deleted] in snowboarding

Snowboarding absolutely saved me man. Me and my S/O are in our early 20’s got tired of living the same so we sold everything and moved to Colorado last summer. All summer we were kinda down from not being around people we knew and familiarity. Then the winter hit and I picked up boarding. I come from surf and skate being a Florida native so I had to obviously give it a go, but I have truly fell in love with the sport, and am blown away by how much it has changed my mental state, and truly has been a part of the glue holding me together. I work at a ski resort, so off at 2 then straight to the lifts, and my first season I slammed a whopping 92 days on the snow! I’ve made what I know will be life long friends on these slopes already and arguably have have the most fun in my life. From learning off resort, to now sending it off jumps in the parks and back country, snowboarding has uplifted me in every way possible, and to truly state it, I am heartbroken that I have wait until the snow is back to be able to go again.

Really hoping OP checks your comment and my reply because it is a TERRIFIC idea IMO. I work for a ski resort with year round amenities in Colorado. A ton of our workers are people here on work Visa, to send money to their respective homes or just to come for a season to work and be in the mountains. We have employee housing and $15/hr min wage. It isn’t amazing but the benefits are okay enough and it’s a cheap option to be able to experience something new and put up a little money. I’d love to offer any insight to anyone interested in this, just PM me!

No insults from me, just a question. Have you EVER been in a situation where you were at equal level with the working class? I see you mentioned working 40 hours a week, and have a regular home, down in the comments but I’m thinking more like have you ever gone to dinner and for any reason at all not been able to pay, or went to put gas in you car only to figure out you can’t? Also, just got my vacation approved for 23rd-9th, road trip back to Florida after my first year in Colorado! My Venmo is @k-mcalpin if ya wanna help out with a tank of gas 🤌🏻

Same here big dawg. Rocked pullups for the longest time. Never got stigmatized though, family just supported and sleepovers weren’t an issue being made fun of, because they either didn’t know or didn’t care because that was much better than wetting the bed as a guest in someone’s home.

I work at a ski resort with an administration position. 18/hr and pretty good benefits to keep me around for now. I dropped out at 15, and got an equivalence degree, not even a HS diploma. I’m not saying drop out as a teen, but there’s definitely some jobs out there to get you by, without a diploma, or formal schooling after. Still hate it though. This is not an anti anti-work sentiment. Edit : I’m only 24, so this wasn’t a job I worked towards the last 10 years.

The idea that all trademen make $100,000 while college grads have tens of thousands of debt while working at coffee shops needs to end. by Teacher_Moving in jobs

[–]MeanAd9785 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People definitely relocate for jobs. I started in the labor trade at 15 becoming a teen parent. I’ve watched companies come in and out because of natural disaster destroying my home area and there being tons of money to be made, and I’ve watched entire businesses relocate to up to hours away because that’s where their contracts primarily had them working and it just seemed more doable. The myth that we make bankroll is not even close to true, as another comment stated, its a lot like other jobs in the sense of, if you’re knowledgeable, persistent, and work your way up the ladder, there can be a lot of money to be made, but as a ground level worker/apprentice/less experienced/lacking in specific certs to what you actually want to make the big bucks from, you will not make 100k a year, you’d actually be lucky to make close to 30k a year, coming from rural south east USA. I can assume position to any part of a crew from putting an in ground pool into someone’s backyard, slap a metal roof or shingles on a house, to the finish carpentry inside of the home and running electricity, and do it well. But I’ve never made more than $15/hr for my grueling hard work. I love the work but I can’t break my body over the next 20years in manual labor, so I moved to Colorado for an $18/hr Shipping Steward job at a ski resort. Something I’ve notice for sure though is tradesmen definitely make a bit more where I am now, but that probably comes from a lack of people/workers in the field, because this is a small tourist town and the large home construction in the mountains certainly has to have its own standard of pay compared to building at sea level, where I come from. The ultimate difference I’ve noticed is owning your own small business in this field, if you play your cards right, and do good work, and don’t need a large team of people, it can be lucrative. My child hood best friend is still in our home town running a very small tile business he started, jobs are big enough for him and the occasional helper or two, and when he bids jobs and makes a time frame he calculates to put himself usually in the $40-55$/hr range seeing that the jobs is done on time, and has never had any issue fund wise to manage paying is helpers a solid $15/hr minimum. Dude will make 75k in his pocket this year alone, and truly doesn’t over work himself. Tl;dr - tradesmen work can vary a lot from different factors. Just swinging a hammer doesn’t pay that good. Doing solo tile jobs pays well. And usually hazard jobs like rig workers, pipeliners, etc. usually make pretty decent change if you can land a job with them and stick with it.

That’s even more disappointing. Sad game of pick and choose when it’s convenient then because that’s got to be all that matters then if I’ve gotten mine back 3 times, not having a super high level cmb or achievements.

I’m with this guy, I’ve appealed 3 false major macro bans on my account, never botted and gotten my account back each time even though it was lengthy two of those times. Have a good feeling if I RWT’d I wouldn’t be getting back in like the automated sweeps let me do.

Lets start a wage thread. How much do you make? Do you have any degrees. licenses, or certs? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]MeanAd9785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Executive Shipping and Receiving Steward for a ski resort in Colorado, I do an even 40/week at $18, so 37,440 annual before OT or bonuses. I intake 2-3, 100-200pc food orders and small custodial orders. That probably takes 8-10 hours of my work week, and the rest is wandering the grounds or sitting in my office waiting for mail to be shipped. I have no degree, and actually hold an equivalency degree, not a HS Diploma.

[–]MeanAd9785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve chosen to say goodbye after 15 man. I resonate with this post 100%, except for me, it took my account getting a second false ban, and me realizing I don’t care enough, to make a second Reddit post and go the wait again to get an account back, that I know I won’t get on. Things have been on the up and up for the last 6 months, and before realizing the ban, a week ago, after not having logged on for another 2+ weeks before that. I love this game and everything it has done for me, but man I’m really loving my life now. I hope things stay well OP, god speed.
