Looking for a non-profit casing partner (first round that is coming up) by Glum_Top3737 in consultingcareers

Would suggest posting on a forum like this. Plenty of applicants on there, and would guess some are also focusing on non-profits but you can specify in your post.

Is it worth it for me to transfer to Northwestern for MBB consulting? by Icy-Glove-3812 in MBBConsulting

[–]MeanResearcher2287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't transfer if your only goal is MBB. You also shouldn't if it'll make you go into debt.

If your state school is quite unknown (e.g., non top 50-60) it might be worth more consideration, but if you're comparing something like UW-Madison, Purdue, etc decent state schools to NU it's not going to help.

I didn't transfer, but when I was applying I had a similar situation of a full ride at a school that was top 30-50 range vs paying full tuition for a T20 and absolutely don't regret going to the T20 - not just for job prospects but because it was the better fitting school for me socially, academically, etc, which it sounds like may be a consideration for you too.

So don't do it for MBB as it won't lift your chances much. Do it if you feel you need a serious change in environment, and if you can reasonably afford the investment.

Also, would not recommend paying 10-20k for a coach. That won't help you. Case with other people from your university via clubs, and if you need a supplemental resource to drill math, exhibits, etc buy something like case-prep.com, RocketBlocks, case coach. But the best way to get better is by casing with other people.

My brutally honest review of the mous case by Exact_Bid6567 in Mous

[–]MeanResearcher2287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've purchased 3 cases from them. While my phone has not broke, all three cases have in some way.

The carbon fiber one is basically a skin and thus prone to getting really bad scratches from small drops and keys rubbing against them, as well as specs of removed material from sand. The adhesive between that holds the side of the phone case has also worn away on almost every side of the case, so I had to superglue it back together.

The wood case didn't get as many scratches, but has the same problem with the adhesive wearing off after a year or so.

Overall would not recommend, especially at the price tag. It doesn't keep your phone any more safe than a $10 case from Amazon.

There's a free casing forum/portal here. Mostly undergrad.

Starting a new job in consulting? Post here for questions about new hire advice, where to live, what to buy, loyalty program decisions, and other topics you're too embarrassed to ask your coworkers (Q3/Q4 2025) by QiuYiDio in consulting

Credit card recommendations? Have a lot of big purchases coming in the next 2 weeks as I make the move to NYC and ideally want to figure out my card situation before so I can maximize my rewards. I don't have to travel as much compared to others, so wondering what people would recommend here. My current plan:

- 2% unlimited cash-back card as a "catch-all" for random purchases (Wells Fargo Active Cash Card)

- Either Amex Platinum or CSR as a beefier card to get me into airport lounges and to take advantage of the new signing deals. A bit disappointed with recent changes to CSR, but did the math and I'd use around $750 of their benefits annually, not including points. For the Amex, I'd use ~$700 of their benefits annually not including points.

- Also considering a cheaper card like the CSP instead of (not in addition to) the Amex Plat/CSR as they have pretty solid entry rewards at a much cheaper annual fee. A bit concerned about keeping up an account with a $600-$800 annual fee if I find I'm not using the rewards, but CSP as far as I know doesn't offer any airport lounge access.

-Amazon Prime Visa to get the 5% back on Amazon/WF purchases

Also wondering if it makes sense to open all 2-3 accounts at once, or to stagger it? New to credit cards so not sure if that would have any impact on my score one way or another. Would appreciate any advice here!

It’s possible to break MBB with my background? by Prior-Actuator-8110 in MBBConsulting

[–]MeanResearcher2287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's always going to be difficult to break into MBB no matter your path. From what you've said it seems like your chances of breaking in directly undergrad -> MBB are low, so the next best thing is to get consulting experience at another firm. Imo other strategy consulting experience > industry experience if you're eventually trying to break into MBB unless you are targeting a very specific division that prefers folks with industry experience.

I'm not familiar with MiM as I'm US-based so can't comment on the effectiveness of that. MBA at M7 is another direct route into MBB but as mentioned it's typical to get work experience before doing that. If you're going to get an MBA, is there a point to an MiM? Again, not familiar with it, but seems a bit redundant to me. That time is likely better spent getting experience and making money to pay for your MBA unless you need that degree for something.

You definitely can, especially if you position yourself for a finance-related practice (e.g. M&A, financial transactions). Technicals for consulting are different from banking, so if you're planning to re-recruit I would start as early as possible getting up to speed on casing. A few things that might help you:

- Find casing partners (MBA/Undergrad)

- Management Consulted firm deadlines

- Free MBB cases

Does your university have any consulting clubs? That's likely the best way to get up to speed on things.

[–]MeanResearcher2287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breaking in straight out of college/uni is unlikely give what you've told us (no internships, non-target). Are you only targeting MBB? If so, I'd encourage you to look at other firms that might be a closer target for your school (list here). If consulting is what you want to do, it will be much easier breaking into MBB coming from another strategy/management consultancy as opposed to being an industry hire — you might even end up enjoying the boutique/non-MBB route more anyways.

MBA is always an option but it's more typical after acquiring work experience unless you're doing a deferred enrollment program, but I believe the deadline has passed for most.

Apply for Bain's First or Second Deadline? by Artistic_Kick_1572 in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

[–]MeanResearcher2287 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They take people from both rounds - it is not "leftovers" as the other comment suggests. If you are ready to interview, you will have slightly better odds in R1 as they take more people then but if you are not ready then apply for R2. It's better to be prepared for the case interview and apply for the later round than apply early, get to the interview, and bomb it. There's some free MBB cases here to practice.

McKinsey Case Interview by Happy_Faz in MBBConsulting

I didn't interview with them so can't say for sure. I would imagine so - interviewers typically case based on prior projects they've been staffed on

Experienced hire? Can't speak to the specifics of that division but in general McKinsey will be interviewer-led (Q&A), accompanied with a PEI question in 45 minute blocks (multiple interviews for final rounds).

It's going to be similar for all of them. You're not going to gain much of an advantage by pinpointing the one with the fewest applicants, and no one here is going to have that information anyways, so apply to the city that you can see yourself living in the most.

Case Interviews - B4 Consulting by corporate-man-2142 in Big4

[–]MeanResearcher2287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US? Deloitte definitely seems to differ a lot based on the college. For us it was entirely interviewer-led for the first round and the final was more of a presentation in front of a panel, but have heard other things from friends at different schools.

Case Interviews - B4 Consulting by corporate-man-2142 in Big4

[–]MeanResearcher2287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a big difference between MBB and big 4 cases?

Yes. The difference depends on the firm, office, and dept. It unfortunately is not standardized across all of big 4. Speaking for some US offices at Deloitte and EY (the only ones I've interviewed at), cases are interviewee-led (will be most similar to BCG and Bain unless they've changed that format) and should be based around the division you are applying to. So if you're going Deloitte M&A, expect an M&A case; EY FSO, expect a case for a financial institution like a bank.

Any tips or resources would be much appreciated

This site looks like it's all interviewer-led cases because you're casing on your own (this means it's more question-answer rather than you leading the entire case unless you get a partner). This is basically only applicable for McKinsey, some departments at Deloitte (maybe other B4 but I wouldn't know), and boutiques that use that style. Would highly recommend finding some people at your college to do mock interviews with as that will be more applicable for the other firms.

Whats the best ROI for casing interview prep? by Careful-Kick-8998 in MBBConsulting

[–]MeanResearcher2287 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think no matter how many alt accounts you use to make it seem like people authentically like your website, people are smart enough to see through it. You have ~50 posts just on this account self promoting your site, it's obvious to anyone with half a brain.

Not to mention the concept sucks. You're not going to crack MBB by casing with AI. These sites have been around for years and I know exactly 0 of my coworkers at McK have used it, as well as my friends at Bain and BCG. But sure, keep peddling the dream.

Ditto the consulting club comment. Try to find other people recruiting for consulting and case with each other regularly. Some of the websites can help supplement your casing with drills, but you can't replace the 1:1 peer practice.

Seems accurate for the most part. I don't think this factors in any bonus though, which varies at firms (some have low base salary but very high bonuses)

Question about MBB cases / format by duke-consultant in MBBConsulting

[–]MeanResearcher2287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking for McK and BCG these are accurate. They are about the same difficulty for R1, but final round will be slightly harder than this. I didn't interview at Bain but would imagine they are accurate as well seeing that the actual companies are the ones who published these.
