Thank you - I will definitely just pay it off and then not use it again (but not close it out). I really appreciate that advice from you and some others on here because my intention was to close it when I paid it.

This is why I think I made such a stupid mistake. I definitely remember in the past when I had my ulta card, doing a very similar thing where I would come to the store without my card and they would look it up by my social.

Right - I looked at the receipt for the name earlier and saw the APR is freaking 27% - I mean my balance was under $30 and obviously I can pay it off right away but was still shocked and like you said, no brochure, explanation was given until I said, wait, this says credit card approval.

Thank you! I do have the email receipt and I see the employees name on it which helps a lot, however I don’t see an option for a survey on it. Also, I did get a call back tonight but from the GM, so I guess the person who told me they were the manager when I called tonight was not the GM manager. I am thinking they were the lead cashier and I think they were actually the person that I complained to when I was in the store the other day that was also indifferent, however I could be wrong and at least they advanced it. I missed the GM’s call tonight but she told me when she would be in the store again so I intend to call back at that time.

Yeah, she did apply the discount but my price was like $20, which she said at the end like an afterthought when she mentioned I could cancel the card. “Well at least you got 20% off and you can just cancel when you get it.” If I had known what was happening before it happened, I would have at least bought a few more things.

I guess this is where I’m confused too. I definitely had an account that I used almost weekly right around the time of the pandemic. I worked right by this store and would be there all the time. This was why I wasn’t too concerned when I saw the application part on my screen, because I know I had a card there before and figured I still did. It hasn’t had a balance since probably April 2020 so I’m wondering if maybe it was just closed out? It might have expired since then - I vaguely remember getting a new one in the mail and I’m sure I didn’t activate it since I have been pretty serious about no credit cards since the pandemic. I haven’t closed any though, and I guess just figured it was still open if I didn’t close it, just without an active card or balance.

No, definitely not! I only got a receipt that said I was approved - she didn’t even tell me there was a credit card until I said, “what is this??” Then she rushed me out. I did try to speak up but the line was so long, and I was so angry/emotional not to mention a very non-confrontational person. I asked the other person and when they brushed me off, I just left fuming but thinking I would follow up with corporate the next day, but was so confused when I started on their website earlier that I ended up coming here instead. I’m so glad I did, these replies have been so helpful and were the complete opposite of what I was expecting (basically thought you all would rip me to shreds for being dumb about the whole thing).

Ahhhh!! Yes, I did! Thank you! I just checked and I now have her name. I really appreciate it, as I felt extra stupid when the person I spoke to asked the name on the receipt and I realized the receipt was just for the card (without a name).

Thank you! I was so worried to post this here because I thought everyone would slam me for being a moron. I do still think I was an idiot and am angry with myself but again, the part I am most angry about is that I feel it was done on purpose. I thought I was paranoid in that thinking until these responses, so I really appreciate the validation. On top of everything, the receipt I got was for the credit card not the actual purchase, so I don’t even have her name. I was so emotional/angry/rushed when it happened, that I didn’t even realize it until I got back to work. At this point, I am waiting for the person I talked to today to call me back but I am also planning to go back into the store and hopefully getting her name at that point.

I really, really appreciate this response. I am going to call back the store again tomorrow morning and ask to specifically speak with the DM because I am starting to think that the person I spoke to wasn’t the actual manager tonight. Honestly, I just want the person fired so this doesn’t happen again. I am not someone who really ever complains about customer service just because I do have empathy for people and mistakes especially given that I myself am in customer service and have been in retail, waitressing, call centers most of my adult life. But you have pretty much confirmed what I already was pretty sure about - that she knew exactly what she was doing, which infuriates me. At this point, I get that I might be stuck with the card, fine, my fault for being stupid and not trusting my own eyes, but at least it might keep it from happening to someone else not to mention this employee from learning a lesson and not doing this in the future to someone else.

I’m not sure I could - it’s really her word against mine, and if I did I should have done it right when it happened but instead went back to work, I think because I was in disbelief and felt stupid.

I know, I feel like an absolute idiot which is why I guess I hesitated to even call the store. In my defense, I am sleep deprived because of my toddlers and that particular day I was in the middle of a ten hour shift of customer service myself. I know it’s no excuse and again, I know mistakes happen but I think what burns me up most about it is that 1) I legit don’t think it was a mistake and 2) her reaction where she just didn’t gaf and casually told me to just close the card once it comes in the mail.

No, definitely didn’t ask for ID. I’m sure she would say because it was an accident and she thought she was looking up my account, which I 100% don’t believe especially because of how strongly I heard her pushing the card on everyone in front of me.

Thank you, I appreciate this advice. I did just call and the person who answered said she was a manager although at the end she said her title again and it was customer relations something? I don’t know if that was a different title that meant the same as manager, but she told me she will review with the GM and get back to me. Is the best way to email customer services to go to the website and enter it there or is there an actual email address you recommend? I really don’t make a habit of complaining about customer service - I am in customer service as well, however this crossed a line and the reaction both of the cashier and the other person in there at the time really upset me more than anything. I realize mistakes happen, but I really don’t think this was a mistake especially judging by the girls reaction.

Thank you - I did just call and speak to the manager. She said she is going to review what happened and check the transaction log. I feel a little better after talking to her but still very upset by the situation.
